Golf is going to be in 2016 summer Olympics

This is pool related. The op is trying to start a discussion on how to make pool a Olympic sport. Think more before you post.

Well there's still a debate on pool being a sport ,, personally I don't think so ,, however let's assume it is just what game is Olympic quality , for my money it would be 14-1 , 3 cushion , snooker ,Chinesse 8 ball and 15 ball rotation ,,

Golf, put ball in hole. Pool, put ball in hole. In comparison If curling is considered a winter Olympic sport, how are golf and pool not feasible as Olympic "sports"?

If it was

I think 9ballr was joking, i.e., pool will never be an Olympic sport, so take it to NPR.

If it was in good spirit, I apologize. After being here a while it's hard not to read everything as negative or bashing.

Are we really comparing pool to golf?! Haha please stahp ;P

Scratch golf player vs shortstop. What's easier to become? Btw, I don't golf but appreciate the sport and watch the final rounds of majors for the historical placement.

It's sad!!

Certainly understand that.

It's sad that we all love pool but and feel like we have to protect our own. We should assume positive discussion, not negative. I am guilty and have become jaded and it makes me regret what I've become. Lol sorta, I'm not losing sleep.

Pool is a sport, as defined by the IOC at any rate, and that's all that counts as far as it being potentially in the Olympics.

But it won't. The only scenario I could see is if the summer games ever went to the PI, like say Manila. The host country I believe is allowed to name an exhibition sport or two and they just might conceivably choose pool.

Other than that I don't see it happening. The summer games are so huge there is a moratorium on considering adding any new sports and even as slots do become available I'm afraid pool is a way down the list of potentials. Too bad because it could bring in new blood - countries that aren't really competitive in any of the summer games events.

Agreed

Highly unlikely Manila could fund the event.

Golf

I was surprised that they were allowing golf into the Olympics.
And it does make me wonder if someone who knew what they where doing and applied them self's to getting pool in the Olympics if it could be done.

Personally I would be willing to help support a USA pool team or billiards team .

I would like to go and see it and if I would be allowed to take my camera in it would be way cool to photograph it too.

Where would some one start to try to get this going ?

I just do not understand why Pool & Snooker is not even in the olympic. This is a total bull by the Olympic committees to be honest.

I have signed the petition for Pool to be part of Olympic Games but not sure it will help or not.

:frown:

Give a big enough kick back to IOC Committe members and your in.

Pool would make a better Olympic event than golf, if the intention is to bring the best the world has to offer together to truly compete. Golf will just end up like hockey after they started allowing pros to play. The US sent a dream team of pros who promptly partied it up and got their asses handed to them. Similarly the top 10 golfers in the world wouldn't blow their nose for less than $100K.

Now for the top pool players not having to pay for their travel or room and board would be quite an incentive. Could have some issues keeping them from gambling for that long and the PED testing might deter some. But a US gold medalist gets $25k. Free room and board plus a possible big payday should bring out the big dogs.

I looked at their web page and read some of the info but there is allot of info to read ..

Yeah, I know. If you go to the link I provided in the various bullet points about the org's mission it pretty much is all about getting cue sports into the Olympics.

The WCBS umbrella organization is in fact a member of the IOC. ;) The genesis of the whole thing (IIRC) is that to be considered for the Olympics one of the requirements is the sport must have a worldwide governing body with national federations. Hence the WCBS for cue sports, the WPA under it for pool, and the BCA (such as it is) was probably designated the USA federation mainly because it was there.
