My best friend, Dan Dillworth died on April 30 at the age of 34 after having a heart attack. I first met him playing pool. He always had the knack of controlling whitey. He could bank with just about anyone and had what I always considered the perfect natural stroke. He always dreampt of going to Derby City and never made the trip. This next year, we were both planning to meet up to go to DCC to have the time of our lives. I still plan to go this year. I will always cherish our pool outings, going to Red Shoes and Chris's Billiards in Chicago and all the other awesome places and taking the Color of Money tour to each of the places that Paul Newman and Tom Cruise shot while filming "The Color of Money". He leaves behind a wife Trish and two young daughters ages 3 and 5. My sons are both 3 and 5 also. Trish just told me the other night when she got home, he never put his cue back in his case , instead leaving it on his pool table. It use to be my cue that he had always admired. I love this game that we play and I plan to continue playing it throughout my life and I appreciate the fact that this game brought me together with my friend Dan. It makes me think of a quote "Live each day like its your last because some day it will be". Dan had a lot of guts and wasnt afraid to play anyone. I always admired his spirit. Sorry so long, but I wanted and needed to get it out. Thanks, Deacon

I am saddened by your loss, for life offers each of us a just a handful of truly special associaitons and relationships. May the memories of the good times you shared with your friend live on.

I am so sorry to hear that. 34 is no age for someone to go. My condolences to you & his family.

Deacon,

Your story makes me think of my own 2 children, also 3 and 5 yrs old. Keep your head up and be strong! We should all learn that very lesson you mentioned, "live EVERY day to the fullest". I also take from this personally a warning to break my unhealthy habits, in an effort to stay with my family as long as I can. Thanks for sharing, because now, you do not have to bear the burden of grief all by yourself - all of the AZB community are here now to help you keep your balance. God Bless

Chris

Thanks for sharing this with us. I hope you will create something in his memory at a place that was special to both of you. Could you post a photo of Dan on here please?

Very Sorry

I have a 3 year old and an 18th month old and I can't imagine them growing up with out me. He and his family and friends are in my prayers.

My condolences on your loss. I hope that posting about your friend here will bring you some solace.

It is bringing some solace. I will post a pic, I have several of Dan at a senior event. He is with Boston Shorty, Dallas West, Steve M, Danny D, Billy Incardona and many others. He was having his Winning one pocket book signed by all of them. Thanks again everyone, Its the first time I was able to let anything out since hearing of his death.

Deacon,
I am sorry for your loss. The billiard world has lost an obviously passionate player and student of the game. My condolences to you and his family.

sorry for your lose of a friend, but you are lucky in a sense that you meet someone you could share life with as a friend, not to many people that way these days. i am old man , been around pool long time and just a few i can call true friends. God Bless you and his familey. STICK

Sorry for your loss. We recently lost a great pool player in this area too. Shane McGill. He was 34 I believe as well with 2 small children. He died of a heart attack in his dad's driveway. We was A+ bar box player and played well on the big table too. He played often as Mike McGill. Tall, slim, looked to be in fine health, and way too young to go. Maybe some of you know him from the Viking events. RIP my friend.

Deacon,

May he RIP.

I lost a best friend in January, though not on the scale of your loss, but none the less it left a hole in my life. This is what I did to ease the pain and to thank my friend for being just that.
I designed/bought a new cue that had certain aspects that reminded me of my friend. Now when I pick up the cue the hole in my life is filled and I don't feel as empty. At least when I have my friend in my hands. A true friend can never be replaced. But I can at least keep all the memories right in my hands. I'm sorry about your loss, my condolences.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Deacon. I live 40 mins. outside of Covington and may have had the pleasure of meeting Dan. I would love to see a pic. My condolences to his wife and kids as well.

My condolences to you and Dan Dillworth's family.

It's tough to lose a best friend but how tough must it be for his mom, wife and children?
