Goofyness at the pool hall

Had something weird happen at the pool hall today that I really don’t know how to handle. We’re just a bunch of old timers playing, no money involved. I was in the middle of a game of 8 ball When a jump shot came up, I went to my case to get my jump cue, the guy I’m playing for some goofy reason starts shooting balls on the table next to ours which was vacant. A guy on the table on our other side, whose in the
middle of a one pocket game. gets on our table and starts shooting balls. I get P.O.ed
For some unknown reason this type of thing has been going on lot this year. I think it's
almost insulting I feel if you want to hit balls hit balls, if your playing a game, even if only for fun, you should pay attention to the game.

Right or wrong?

Right, that's just disrespectful. The worst is having to call your opponent over and tell him it's his turn because he's not paying attention to your match.

i don't think it was disrespectful on purpose
just not thinking

i would explain it to the guys and not worry about it

It can work to your advantage if you miss the object ball in 9-ball, and your opponent is not paying attention to the match. If they can't pay attention, they don't deserve ball in hand.

how about when your opponent returns to the table and asks, "am I stripes or solids?"

Wait a minute...so this other guy starts hitting balls on your table in the middle of your rack as you're getting your jump cue together??!! I'd be pretty pissed too.

That's what I thought I read all so. I definitely would've been pissed.
Bob, So what'd you say to the guy?

I was playing a local guy some one pocket on a back table near the guys practicing for league. The guy I'm playing tries to bank the 8 two times and scratches, then the 8 rolls up in the side. One of the league guys walks up and wipes the balls across the table and says "Man tough luck". He thought we were playing 8ball and the guy just lost...

I asked him WTF he thinks he's doing and he got defensive. When we told him we were in the middle of a one pocket game, he apologized... He "didn't know"

You must have found someone that "didn't know" either.

I've had my opponent step away to hit balls while I'm shooting, it irks me too.

I feel there should be a rule against it, if it isn't already covered as unsportsmanlike.

Bob, So what'd you say to the guy?

Just said "what the H3LL you doing, which table are you playing on?"

I do have to remember that this is a senior rec center not a real pool room.

And for the guys who ask " do I have stripes or solids?" I reply go ahead and shoot and I'll let you know. And it does happen here.

I would be blasting balls all over his 1p game. It would not have to be a cue ball. Just anything I could hit.

Wrong...and my belief is that these people should be stripped naked, hands and feet bound to each corner pocket on the table, and savagely beaten with the shaft of a Cuetec cue!!!

Maniac (and...don't forget your PSR!!!)

Assuming I am just playing for fun (no league or money) I would keep having fun, life is too short.

I don't care much what the opponent is doing while I'm shooting,
but of course it's normal to get mad is someone wrecks your game
by just walking up to your table and hitting balls.

I dunno how your pool hall works but at ours, any table with balls on it is paid for...
you don't mess around on some stranger's table, they're renting it.
It doesn't matter if the balls are in use or not. There are no free practice tables.
It would be like if someone left their car idling so you just stroll up to it and sit down
and start messing with the radio.

Admittedly, people are more relaxed about this if there's a special,
like $5 pool or free pool.

I guess they thought that the table was unused because both players stepped away from it.
But I'd blame the idiot who started hitting balls on someone else's table, not the bored opponent.

I'm with Dave on this one. I don't get why people are so uptight. It's just a game. Always try to consider the other person is just ignorant, which does not mean stupid. They just don't know. I like to stay chill myself.

Old men? geeze... sometimes they forget what table they are playing on and with whom.

Too proud to admit they are wrong or being disrespectful, or too old to know any better.

Maybe a 'do not disturb' sign on your table when you leave...

I've seen worse by younger players.

No practicd during game.

I feel there should be a rule against it, if it isn't already covered as unsportsmanlike.

In properly run leagues and tournaments, it is against the rules to practice during a game in progress.
