Got a question, need some advice

I have a one of a kind Keith Josey cue I found in a pawn shop in N.C. It's just the butt with no shafts. I know it's a 1 of 1 because I took it to the SCCS in July and presented it to Mr. Josey and confirmed that it was the only cue he made like that. He told me a story behind the cue stating that he had the piece of birdseye for 15 years before deciding to use it for that cue. He said when it sold brand new it was $1500. Like I said it has no shafts and does need refinishing. The butt is dead straight with some dings toward the bottom of the butt. I have a Predator fat shaft I can use with the cue. I want to sell the cue to pay some bills as I'm unemployed at the moment. My question is should I have the cue refinished and have the Predator shafts ringwork matched to the cue and then sell it? Which would be cheaper than refinishing and having a new shaft made. Or, try to sell it as is. Refinishing and having the ringwork matched costs between $200 and $225 as opposed to $300 for refinishing and having a new shaft made. I don't have the money at all to sink into have repairs done and I need money now. The cue as is is appraised at $1100, refinished would bring probably $1600. Should I post this in the for sale section? If anyone's interested let me know.

I would send it back to Josey and have him refinish it and make a couple new shafts for this cue. JMO!

What he said! Have you played with a Josey? If you play with it after you get new shafts you may want to keep it, regardless.

It's really not in terrible condition Like I said, it has a few dings toward the bottom of the cue and it is dead straight. If I had the money I would send it to Keith. I want to sell it because I need money.

Since you don't have the money to refinish the cue then the only choice you have is to sell it if you need the money. Refinishing the cue is a gamble anyway. There's a lot of nice cues for sale here on the forum that just aren't selling because of the economy.

I'm with Doug here. Selling the bare butt alone does not have much value. Add at least one matching Josey shaft and you have something, refinished or not. Have Keith make you a shaft and then try to sell it.

whatever you choose realize how bad the market is and that you probably won't get what its really worth. Since you just need money sell it as is

I have a Gulyassy sledgehammer and a leather 2x4 case I'm trying to sell as well. I'm going to list the Josey along with the jump break and the case. Hopefully everything will work out. Thanks everyone for their help.
