Grady's

Just came from this: Grady?s 9 Ball?Entry fee: $125. Payout: $10,000 based on 70 players. Dates: Aug. 15, 16, & 17. Big tables, race to 11, double elimination.

No one showed. From my understanding, Grady flew in Niels Feijen (sp) and that was really the only person worth watching. Eight people, including Grady, played in the tournament. Local player Josh Roberts won his first two matches and now he's in the finals. LOL!! For some ungodly reason finals are tomorrow. First place is $1000, and I think it's paid through fourth. Should have had a garranteed payout tournament, would have attracted alot more players. At least more notable ones. Thought everyone would like to know.

I feel bad for Grady.
A guy from New Orleans moved to another southern state & city and opened a Sno-Ball stand.

One year later, he and his wife had made $1,000,000 selling Sno-Balls.

Doug
(their hours were 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. and their kids took a shift)

This was bad news...

Guess Niels will write about it on his blog too, www.nielsfeijen.nl

Just curious: I thought Grady was the man to make things happen in the states? If he wanted to put up a show, people joined... What happened here, and why?

AGAIN........... blame the amateur events.

NO Brian it's not the Amateur events. There are plenty of Open events this weekend and the APA championships that can effect all tourney's. The way I see it is that this is just another reason the US needs a real tour structure from the Amateurs to the Pro ranks.

Brian, did you play in Grady's event ?

LOL.........

Oh yeah, to the original poster.....Why do you think it's funny that Josh Roberts made the finals? He's a monster.

I know they are having the Turning Stone Tournament in upstate ny $25,000. Are there any other big tourny's this weekend? That's a shame 8 people showed up. Has to be a reason. Johnnyt

I heard last night that Larry Nevel was playing Neils a race to 6 one pocket for quite a bit of change. Last I heard, the score was 2-2.

Anyone have any updates????????????

I think that part of the problem with Grady's is his website. If you are gonna try to attract players frome everywhere, you need the web to help you out. Alot of people I talk to say that when you go to Grady's site that there is a virus that tries to attach itself to your computer, so no one goes to the site. I think the first thing I would do is work on getting my website in top shape if I wanted to get the interest of national (and world wide) players.

Here's why

Mike Janis and Shannon Daulton are a lot to blame. We had our event scheduled almost a year in advance and they still scheduled right over us. Mike is trying to have a monopoly, with an event every week.
Well, I think we'll go down to $40 entry fees and collect green fees like everybody else.
Thanks for your input.

?

One of my problems with internet reporting is that it's practically always wrong. Yes, we only had eight players but Josh Roberts won one match last night...not two and he has to win three on the winners' side to make the finals.

high entry fee

The players' not showing up is a result of the $125 entry fee. I am not saying Grady was wrong to set it up this way, I am just pointing out the cause and effect relationship. The other contributing factor was the doubt about how much money would be added. If you just say $5,000 added, at least people know what's going on. "$10,000 based on 70 entrants" doesn't tell you how much is added if a realistic number shows. Of course, with a high entry fee the only guys who are going to play are the guys with a chance to win, that is, the Stevie Moores and Josh Roberts of the world. With a high entry fee, you get something like what happened at the million dollar challenge, with 12 people. Grady's is a wonderful place to play, by the way.

Proliferation of events in conjunction with high travel expenses have made tournements which pay based on turnout a poor option

No I didn't play, and I didn't think it was funny that he won. He is a monster. I was misinformed about how many matches he won. Grady's is an awesome pool room, great tables, cool atmosphere. I do wish some of the "kids" would quit hanging around. But an all around nice place. I just wish he got more of a turn out.

I'm going with the Grady deffence."Blame it on the other guy"
Mike J' and Shannon it's all your fault......LOL

This is very sad for pool. There were a few of us from Louisville that were going to the bank tournament next month. Now we must reevaluate the situation here. Nobody wants to drive 8 hours for only 10-12 players.

Would preregistering with updates on who is the list by the TD be a possible solution. Just trying to think of a way that would fix the concern of driving a distance to find a shallow turnout.

If the money is guaranteed, not contingent on the turnout, and if the entry fee is normal, there will be good participation.

Then would that involve the need for sponsors? Someone has to be responsible for the guaranteed money, right? The TD? The pool room? What other options could be used to front that cash? Please don't think I'm grilling you. This is just conversation. Cool? Thanks.

Grady, another thought, Million $$$ Shoot Out and Turning Stone are up north at the same time too, seems to me too many events all at the same time. Its impossible with the number of players for any of them to be full. We have the oppsite problem on the west coast. There juat arnt enough players-but thats another topic. I wish you the best,

kindest regards

entry fee

I agree and we are going to make the entry fees $40 plus a $20 green fee and gaurantee $1,000 added. This will be in effect for our next three events, Bar table 9 Ball, Bank Pool and One Pocket.
