Grady's
850-C South Lake Rd.
Lexington, SC 29072
The phone number is 803-957-7665, although much of the time nobody will be answering until about mid Sept. It's on Route 6, exit 55 off I-20.
Eleven big tables and six bar boxes, Diamond Smart tables all with pro cut pockets. There's 7,400 sq. ft. and we'll be serving beer and wine.
I'm thinking about having a small event for a grand opening on Oct.13th and 14th. (The doors will be open much earlier...like as soon as there's a table on four legs.) The U.S. Open starts on the 15th but players don't have to be in Norfolk until Mon. evening and it's only a six hour drive from here in Lexington.
Frankly, I've been tired of 9 Ball for a long time and I'm kind of known for One Pocket, Banks and 14.1 anyway. So I respectfully ask this forum, do you think a Bank Pool or One Pocket event would work as an opening attraction? By the way, On Sat. nights, when there's nothing big conflicting, I run really nice handicap 9 Ball tournaments.
When I get this establishment off the ground I intend to start Senior tournaments, too.
I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Congradulations Grady, I hope everything go's well for you and Randi. Please post some photo's of your place when you get up and running, I would like to see it.

Take it easy, and say hello to Randi for me and Billy!!!!

Have a good night!!

Grady...Congratulations on getting your new place going! It's been a long time since you had your last room in Columbia. I was there then! This one is much bigger and sounds much nicer. Remember when we met on the road when you were headed to the Savannah Billiard Club to do your exbitition match with Alison? We met by chance at a truck stop, and I followed you, as I was headed to watch the exhibtion myself. That was the one you messed up the start time on. Gerda and Alison were waiting for you when we got there! LOL You even invited me to do a few trick shots in the middle of your gig. That was fun. I look forward to coming to your new room in late Oct. I'll be teaching in Charlotte, and I'll make sure I get down to Lexington to visit and knock some around!

You're about an hour and a half from me, Grady. I'll be down in the fall.

If Grady were only an hour and a half from me, I would VOLUNTEER to work the counter, sweep the tables, be the tush hog, etc. :D

Pushout, I could WALK that far before "fall" came...and I think I would just to hear his stories, let alone what you could learn.
You are so lucky...:)

That's great Grady! My folks live in Irmo and I look forward to stopping in the next time I visit them. Best of luck with what promised to be one of the best players' rooms in the US!

Congratulations on the new room! I look forward to getting down to check it out. I might try to get Scott and Randy to join me for a quick trip between classes this October when they are in Charlotte.

Glad to see things rollin along Grady. As for the tourney; one-pocket for sure. By the way, if you see your pal Billy Incardona, please tell him and everyone that you see that I sent him 20 bucks for an autographed picture and haven't got the picture OR the 20.

Grady, Just a head's up...........

Grady:

FYI The US Open this year will start on Sunday the 14th so the players will have to be in Norfolk on Saturday the 13th. Might want to consider changin the date for the event.

my last post was strictly in jest. I'm sure Billy is busy with his new place and hasn't had time to read my letter.

Ditto for me (on posting the picture/s). I was so very glad to meet you on your tour in the late 80's after all the color of money fame. I hope it goes well for you.

Buggs.

Good luck Grady!

I hope everything goes well with you and your new business!

I know that you have had a vision of opening up a pool room for a long time, and this is great news that you have achieved your dream. I have a feeling that you are going to enjoy success. The location is great, IMHO.

One-pocket tournaments would be the nuts. I think players will come from far and near to play. With your tournament director/promoter experience, it will be a hit.

Getting some regional tours to make a stop there will also help to make players aware of your location. Shannon's tour is right in your neck of the woods, as well as Viking.

Good luck, Grady, and congratulations! :)

I recommend a 10 ball tourney and a short rack bank pool tourney like at DCC. Both seem to be the up and coming games, and would be very popular. I would say a 100 entry into both, with a payout for each tourney, with also maybe a small payout to the person who finishes highest in both, sorta a personal king of the hill trophy. I am just not a big fan of one pocket tourneys because they seem to cater to the 8 and out type of player more than the true movers of the game.

Good luck

good job Grady, push foward fast on a seniors tour, tournment anything it will do the game alot of good and be fun for the senior players too, Miz did a good job of it if my memorie is correct, you can too.

hang alot of pictures on the wall like Fred and Mary did in Vegas -Cue Topia years ago, its nice to look at them, i went into that room for years and we awalys looked at the pics, not all were champions some were of good shortstops from around the country. it makes a nice atmosphere-better than beer signs. Jointed cue in Sacramento has alot of cool pics too. Just a thought,

Road Trip!

This sounds like a great opportunity for a road trip... and I'm coming from Canada! Good luck on the room Grady, I will be down to see it one day for sure. Friday 9 ball handicap tournament sounds like a blast!

Grady, Just for your information I think you've made a mistake. The US Open has a new start date this year. It starts on Sunday and not Monday as you have stated.

The following is from the US Open thread on AZB:

U.S. Open 9-Ball Now Starts on Sunday

The official start for the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship has been changed slightly. For the first time in tournament history, the event will begin on a Sunday, October, 14th at 7:00 PM ET and end on a Saturday night, October 20th.

"After careful consideration, we believe that everyone associated with the event will benefit from a Saturday evening conclusion, allowing them to travel home on Sunday," said Barry Behrman, founder and promoter. "We also believe this will have a very positive impact on the TV production and broadcast distribution."

Subsequently, the player's meeting will be held on Sunday, October 14th at 4:00 PM ET. VIP festivities are also being planned for Sunday afternoon prior to the players meeting.

Good Luck with your new Pool Room in Columbia, SC and I'll be sure to come by as soon as I can........

James

Grady,

That is great news, congratulations!

I hope the new venture is a stellar success and that the players come from near and far.

I will be sure to stop in when I am in your neck of the woods.
