grainger now selling pool tables

Absolutely ridiculous inflation of prices. That's borderline gouging. It's funny, because we get a lot of supplies from Grainger at work. I wonder how inflated that stuff is too ...
 
I bet this is for the military. The military uses grainger a lot and I'm sure some MWR stuff gets ordered through them, it's just one more way for them to get the government money.

Just my best guess.

$15K is pretty sick considering you can order a GC5 direct from brunswick for $9748. by the way thats not simonis they have advertised but probably centennial cloth. besides they show everything as ships from mfg so they must have some deal with brunswick.
on a side note concerning military purchases - thos go out for bids so i seriously doubt some mwr office is gonna order from grainger.

How many billiard suppliers do you suppose are on the approved supplier list ?

If you aren't on the approved list , you can't be a government supplier .

If you happen to be the only supplier , you get away with MURDER .

Remember $900 toilet seats and $600 hammers ?

wouldn't it be cool to have a pool table with a MIL SPEC label ?
 
These prices are extremely high due to the fact that if you enter into a contract with them for a municipality or large business they offer you crazy discounts of like 43% off all items.

My office buys from an office supply chain that charges around $7 for a Bic pen in the catalog but after our discount it's like 82 cents. It just allows them to offer different prices to different companies based on the volume of business by sliding their "discount" amount around.
 
The price is right. Corporations buy from Graingers, MSC, McMaster Carr, and similar. As posted above, they usually have discounts negotiated and payment terms that benefit the corporation. They all ship immediately, and have several distribution centers so usually you get the item the next day, even with standard ground shipping. They also carry a large inventory so you almost never come across a backordered item. For this level of service, the price is a premium.

I work for a corporation and we buy from MSC on a daily basis. Its in our system, and the corporation approval process is in place. I can get a Dewalt Drill for 300 from MSC, or the same model for 180 from Home Depot. I get it from MSC because thats the way my company is set up to do business.

If my company wanted a pool table, buying from one of these companies offering it for sale that we are already set up to do business with is going to be much easier than getting it from a local pool hall for 3000. Thats just life in the corporate world.

A lot of that goes back to 1973 when the oil crunch hit. The US government put a price and wage freeze on everything. The companies decided after that to inflate their prices and then apply a discount incase that ever happened again. This would allow them to have some room to legally raise their prices by adjusting the discounts but not going over their original price.
 
Did you notice that they don't even stock the table...It ships from the manufacturer....

Pretty much zero overhead.

And there are probably a few suckers that have ordered.
