Green or Blue Simonis 860

I think that it comes down to style. From what I have seen of Fast Mike's room (on his web site) the blue would compliment his room. My room was built to look like a pool room so green it is.

Personally I prefer chalk that stands out a little. If you can't see the marks you do not know to clean it. I suspect that I clean my table more often becasue I can see the marks.

I am not positive but in years past when I was on guest on TV shows they preferred a blue shirt for their cameras. I think the blue is easier on the camera. There is a lot of theory on the effects of different colors for setting an emotional tone. That might be worth looking into as the right choice of colors does indeed set an atmosphere.

I appreciate your thoughts about how the blue will look on video, because I will be continuing to record practice and competition videos for YouTube and Google Video sites and for the DVD project.

If blue is better for the eyes, then it would seem to be better for video!

Thanks.

there is only one bar around here with the tour blue cloth and it was awesome! now if only the tables were worth a poop i might actually like shooting there. my vote is for blue!!!

So, I figured, why not just call Simonis?

I'm learning at a rapid rate due to the great replies you guys have been taking your valuable time to help me with...

I hadn't even thought about 760, which is faster than 860, so I went to the Simonis website to fill in some blanks for me, and that was very informative too.

So I figured, why not just call Simonis and talk to a human being, right? What a pleasant surprise... a very nice voice named Felice answered all my questions very capably.

Simonis 860 and 760 are same price. The 760 is faster, designed for straight pool (my favorite) and is made of 70% wool and 30% nylon. The 860 is designed for 9 ball and is made of 90% wool and 10% nylon. The HR cloth is only made in 860 designation, it stands for High Resistance, and it is a thicker cloth but manufactured in the 760 blend but not sheared as flat, so it's slower and plays at the 860 speed.

Felice confirms that 760 would be better in a humid environment, and the tournament blue will be better for video. She even recommended a person to install it that is near me. (In Long Beach, Mike at 562-397-6755.)

The tournament blue in 760 sounds like what I want.

Thank you all for your help!
Let me know if I can return the favor...

Very interesting about the humidity... I live very close to the ocean and humidity is a big challenge. Are you saying that 760 is faster in a humid environment because of manufacturing differences? Do tell more!! Maybe I should consider 760... do they have it in blue?

I don't want to speak for the cardiac kid, but I understood what he said like this...

all cloth is slower in humid weather

760 is faster than 860

860 was too slow for him in a humid environment, but the 760's additional speed canceled out that which was lost due to humidity to provide an acceptable playing surface.

Blue Baby !

It is much easier to see the balls on the blue cloth especially with poor lighting.

I was a purest by nature and was not fond of the blue when it was first introduced. Green was my favorite color...but now, I really like the blue, less shadow issues, easier to see the edge of the object balls and no 6 ball lost :) and yes Corey, I always felt it played faster too, which I like. Appreciate the confirmation though.

Now those folks that for some obscene reason who like to put red cloth on their tables....they worry me :) that just doesn't seem healthy on the eyes. Oddly though, that beige, camel color cloth works ok, but gets so filthy.

For all you reading this, use a black board eraser to erase the chalk marks on Simonis cloth, make sure it's the old high school chalk board eraser and not the dry erase erasers, you'll be surprised at the results;)

Glen is right again

Bought some chalk board erasers and its the quickest thing yet to cleaning your table. Trouble is finding them - I had to go to a teachers supply store to get a couple of the suckers!

Blue is faster than Green. I had always "felt" this, but it was confirmed to me in a call with an industry insider earlier today.

Know what plays faster than blue cloth? Blue cloth with a green racing stripe down the middle! :p
