Guiness World Record

It is fairly obvious this forum gets the most attention in the pool world. So I thought I would post this here. I have already made arrangements with Guiness to set a new consecutive games record. I am interested in any sponsorships that might be available. I am doing this to promote our pool room as well as pool in our local area. I might consider doing this more than once. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What number are you trying to get to? I just need to know so I can prepare myself to play one more than you. :D Good luck.

cool.. I'd be very curious to see all of the Guiness World records that were pool related. Where can you find those? Good luck!!!! Also, what's the current record?

Per Guinness, current record is 0. Any number would qualify, but truthfully 9 ball is 1000. Good luck beating the number... it takes about 3 months for Guinness to approve everything. Our goal is anything over 1000. Probably stop right after, allowing us to continually up the number.

We are interested in any sponsorship, no matter how small. It may not seem like much would be needed, but does anyone feel like shooting around 9000 consecutive shots with a 19 3/4 oz cue. Our local pool room is covering all food and drinks. Advertising should be very heavy locally (Birmingham has quite a strong billiards market) and as much as we can do online.

What exactly does "consecutive" mean? What is the max amount of time you are allowed between games? I'm guessing you're allowed to take short bathroom breaks, but no sleeping. And I'm guessing you can't concede any balls...i.e. you have to legally make the 9 ball in every game.

If you go at a blistering rate of 5 minutes per game, that comes to 5000 mins, or roughly 3.5 days of continuous play. Allowing some not-so-straightforward racks, plus a couple minutes or two of short breaks and racking the balls, this pushes it way past 4 days of non-stop play.

That's awful tough. Good luck to you, but I don't think it can be done without a trip to the hospital.

Now, if you can 3-foul your way to 1000 games, now that's something you can shoot for. ;)

Funny, the reason I got into pool was because of a charity pool tournament that I sponsored for a few years. I talked to the charity about talking to Guiness to set a world record, but they didn't want to go through the trouble. Anyway, good luck, that sounds like a blast! I guess we could have had the original record of 500 or so :)

We estimate 2 and 1/2 straight days. 5 minutes per game is excessive. You must remember there will be no defense, no struggles to win. Only shooting to make or hang up balls and assist in shortening the game. We will probably not allow 3 fouls as this could easily be slighted for record by anyone bumping the cueball 3 times and then reracking. Games will only count with legally pocketed 9 ball. 1 player with ball in hand might however roll the 9 to a pocket for a combo by the next player after receiving ball-in-hand for the foul.

4 days straight F**k that wud be an accomplishment. I jus shuder to think what that will do to ya mentally. Its tough enough when you play 4hrs plus in practice or having to play all day in some competitions and thats with breaks!! All the best with the record your gonna need it!

Onto another record I wonder if anybody will attempt to break or break the straight pool record in the next few years. According to Guiness book of world records the world record stands at 625 balls! always thought it was Mosconi's 526.

From this website.. looks like you might need to go to 1001.

998...999...1,000!

HE’S DONE IT !!!

Raymond "Hitman" Modglin, owner of Castleton Billiards Cafe in Indianapolis, played 1,000 games of 9-ball IN A ROW ! Ray and his cast of supporters set a Guinness World Record during the BCA North American 8-Ball Championships at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Ray began his quest at 8:54 a.m. (PDT) on Monday, May 14 and hit the magic number of 1,000 on Wednesday, May 16 at 4:44 a.m. for a total event time of 43 hours and 50 minutes. Play continued around the clock with Ray breaking on every game. Ray played against over 130 challengers, each of whom made a donation to the Billiard Education Foundation, and have the honor of being an official Guinness World Record participant! Sponsors for the Guinness attempt include: Buckhorn Billiards (tables), Iwan Simonis (cloth), Imperial International (balls), Viking Cue Mfg. (cues), Tweeten Fibre Co. (chalk) and The Sardo Tight Rack (rack).

That was said to be in May, 2001. Is this listed by Guinness? It's one thing to set a record and another thing to get Guinness to accept the record. I've heard that they can be quite demanding in their documentation and conditions. I think their rules for endurance records require certain rest periods and such.

The Guinness web site lists no records for pool, snooker or billiards, but I'm pretty sure I've seen at least snooker mentioned in Guinness books.

I would suggest hitting up Starbucks as your coffee sponsor. You're gonna NEED it. :D

That comes out to 2 minutes 38 seconds per game!

I thought that 5 minutes per game sounded long. I played 7 hours straight once at just under 3 minutes per game. With a ball return table and a line of challengers ready to rack should get you around 2:30.

Are you (iba6467) personally doing the consecutive shooting? How well do you play? That would be a big factor in the overall length of time. Mebbe you could get Luc Salvas to do the shooting - might save a whole day!

I will be playing personally. My level of play is certainly not pro speed, but the speed of my play does rival Salvas. Another thing to consider is the physical effort of rounding the table this much as well. To make it somewhat easier, this will be played on a 7 ft table with a ball return.

Certainly correct Bob. I can assure you there is none, but for personal gratification our goal would be 1001. I also wonder why this was not accepted. Brings questions to the validity of this claim. Guinness records are somewhat stringent, but they will inform you of what is needed. If this qenuinely occured, it should have been able to have been confirmed.

Good luck with this. I played snooker for 24 hours about 14 years ago for charity. It seemed like a good idea at the time but damn, it was hard going! I swear I took my shoes off at the end & nearly killed half the people in the snooker hall!

They did this

here at Southrock Billiards some years ago, playing 1,000 9 ball games in a row. I think they were around 45-46 hours total time.
