Guys Please HELP! RackTight racking system! YES or NO?

Hey Guys and Gals,

I have been tossing this around for some while now. And I can't make a decision so i am calling on all of you pool analyst and billiards experts out there in the pool community...I am opening a pool room in kentucky and i was thinking about using the RackTight racking system on my tables...I am looking for opinions on how it works and is it worth it? Thanks guys and gals!
 
Who will be the bulk of your customers? The precision of RackTight may have more appeal to your higher level players, and may not be appreciated as much by casual players, aka bangers.

Have you considred wooden racks, like Diamond or Muellers can be had for less than $20. They're very sturdy, fast, quick and universally familiar to use.
 
Thanks for your reply, I will have a good mixture of both i think, I plan on right now having alot of tournaments, so i will have a big portion of both bangers and pool players...I considered just putting it on the tournament tables...I'm just not sure yet..Just looking for alot of opinions right now i guess. :)

How many tables? What sizes?

With new cloth, almost anything will provide a good rack - but as the tables are played, it becomes harder to get a good tight rack.

I think on the 9' tables I would use the tight rack - you can always remove them if you don't like it.

On bar tables, it is not perceived as important for a tight rack - but if you want to develop better players etc (and have 'one up' on other competition), I would probably put them on bar tables also.

You will have to 'show' ne players how to use the tight rack - and you might even try having a triangle around to show them how the tight rack does it better.

But novice players might not have the manual dexterity to place the balls with any kind of speed and the triangle will help them get them 'in place'.

Why not get one and see if it works for you in a trial run? How much do they cost? Does it work well for eight ball? Are you going to use a worsted cloth like Simonis 860? (I'd worry about it working well on cheap cloth with loose nap.)

If I were opening a room, and my budget would stand it, and I wanted to get triangles, I'd go for Delta-13 triangles which are very accurate. These were used at the US Open last year, and they made a horrible clanking sound -- they are made of aluminum for precision alignment. They have fixed the sound problem by adding cork or something similar in the milled-out sides and now they sound like good old wood. You can get the triangles with your logo and/or text laser-engraved. You can also get the gold-plated model for your front table for only $1300.

I love the ideas! I am going to have all Diamond Tables 8 diamond bar tables and 3 diamond 9 footers...I do plan on having leagues at some point and i do plan on having several big tournaments...I have also thought of the new delta 13 racks.......and i was also wondering if these micro dots interfered with the way the balls roll very much? Thaks for your help guys!

that front table might be way too close to the front door for a $1300 rack . . .
 
If you plan on using racks that are better than normal I would require a deposit. There are some people whose nature is to steal anything especially if it is shiny. Even at our Moose lodge someone stole one of the cheap plastic racks.

Yeah i think if i get the Delta 13's, i would probably just have them out during the tournaments...I am really kind of leaning toward the Rack Tight system though if people seem to like it:)

Please don't forget to let folks know where your room is at and when it will be open. With this amount of thought and consideration going in to offering good playing equipment, hopefully the players who can will show their support.

If you build it they will come, eh?

Right now plans are to be open in two weeks in Campbellsville Ky, We will have a Weekly Saturday Amateur tournament $1000 guaranteed every saturday starting the first saturday in October! As of right now i am planning on having a open event the 2nd saturday of November, I know there will be some added money but i havn't at this moment decided how much :)

Not really. If a ball is rolling to a stop in the rack area, it might settle into a dot which will make a little difference in its position, but no more than the usual craters you get in the rack area on most tables. They have negligible effect on any ball that is rolling fast enough to get to a pocket.

A very cheap way to test the idea is to get a box of paper reinforcements like these and do it yourself. Of course, you are unlikely to get them in the right places, but it will give you an idea of how the product works.

You're talking about the canadian made clear version of the majic rack (and other brand names)? If so, watching the women's world championships they do work very well but I'd be concerned in a pool hall with a couple of things, first having to explain all the time how to use it, second having a location where they are easy to find without also being easily lost, bangers damaging them or deciding how much they like it and taking it. Also for some games (14.1) it just isn't very usefull so you would still need some conventional racks.

Couldnt you get a Magic Rack, place it on the spot, using the Magic Rack as a template for the ball positions, place those paper reinforcements below each one of the diamond notches that are in the Magic Rack, remove Magic Rack, and continue on other tables?

As a room owner's, you would want something low maintenance but quality high enough to please your customers. Get either a Delta Elite or a high quality wooden rack (like Diamond's or Muellers). If you're worried about theft, have them engraved.

I bet some of your hardcore customers will bring their own magic rack, whether you provide them or not. RackTight may work for 9-ball, and 10-ball, but what about 8-ball and straight pool?
