Hall of Fame for Parica

Who gives a shit anyway.

Apparently...you do. I read what you did write before you had a change of heart and deleted. I have to agree that it was very classy. When I get a little older, I hope I can also deal with differences with such class and politeness. I am not one to call names and such on an internet forum, although I want to at times. I would just like to know what I said that was so wrong and out of line, for a response like this to be warranted? All I stated throughout this thread is that Parica deserves to be in the HOF, he has won numerous titles, just not many MAJORS recognized by the BCA.

Since I am so young and naive JAM, could you do me a favor and please tell me what BCA recognized MAJORS Parica has won? For what it is worth, I have seen you use the 'young people don't know anything' argument many times and I just don't think it is valid. If I say that Keith was the best bar table player of his time(and maybe ever), would you be so quick to jump on me the same way, since I was not around to witness every rack he has ever played? I can read the same list you can on Parica's tournament wins. I hardly doubt you were in the stands in Japan when Parica won these tournaments. Therefore, you are also basing these wins on what you heard or read- the same way as me. It is funny, because Terry was saying the same thing I was. Parica has not won MAJOR(WPA 9-ball, U.S. Open, etc.) tournaments, and this is the main reason the BCA is slow to vote him in. Do you think Titanic Thomas is getting in the PGA HOF, because he beat some of the top pros for money? I never said he should not get in, just that the BCA looks at certain things stronger then others. Without MAJOR tournament wins, a player will be hard pressed to get inducted- unless it is Jimmy Moore!

JAM, I don't know what you have against me, but you seem to like to criticize me and talk about my youth(and anyone else who is young and disagrees with you), like it is why I don't know anything. Can't my stupidness be because of something other then my age. Maybe I am just slow!:( If you really look at our posts, you would see that we usually agree on the subjects at hand. However, there have been times when you talk to me like I am anti-JAM. I have told you before that you can be a great poster, but too often get caught up in small bickering. This is an internet forum and is going to be filled with knuckleheads(you probably think I am one, but I have to disagree)- don't let these little things get you so steamed.

I hope that Parica gets into the HOF. We all know he has played good enough throughout his career. It is just harder for him then certain others, because he was known as a gambler and did not win sanctioned world championships and U.S. Opens. I am still sticking to my opinion that Archer and Souquet have won more sanctioned MAJORS then Parica. They have both won world championships, U.S. Open's, etc. It is ashame if Parica does not get in, but I do think he will get inducted one day. Have a great day JAM!:)

I see you cant even talk about players on a pool forum withour arguing, maybe its no wonder the public doesnt like pool. Is this how they act in poolrooms? too many fights over what? Why cant people express there opinions without that causing somebody to start another argument?
Im getting sick of forums. I want to read things to learn about the game and those who play. Even when people try to learn something, there has to be somebody who has to start a fight. Or name calling. Dont express your opinion, you might get chewed out but good. This stuff is not right. Every few days another argument happens. Childish. If kids acted like this in school the teacher would holler at them for misbehaving.
With all the stuff happening in the world who really cares if a pool player gets votes or not? Does it really change anybodys life that much either way? No, but keep fighting anyway.

When I started the thread I surely didnt mean for it to start such an argument. Jam keep posting because you have great posts.

The bottom line is that he may be known as a gambler but he was known as the best player. He would match up with people who won majors and he would beat them, sometimes easily, sometimes giving them a spot, and sometimes they wouldnt even want a part of him. WHY..because for about 10-15 years he was the BEST 9 ball player in world...and I believe the best players should be in the hall of fame. He was definitely the best player for quite a while, and even without the majors..it wasnt a rumor about how he played...he showed it.

What do you know about their rotation and 9/10 ball after hours action in the past? I know you had to see some..

Does anybody know if Jose still owns or manages a pool room in California? If he does, I wonder if T.A.R. might set up some challenge matches w/ Jose vs________________. (Fill in the blank). Him vs Scotty Townsend would be fun for starters.

This Settles It

I just want to see some living hall of famers call him out after hours....While he doesnt have to win neither do they...

Wow i got to speak.Gambling in pool should not stop anyone from getting into the hof.please name a player in the hall that said they never bet on a match and i would have to say they must be related to pete rose.as for parika going to the hall i am for it.also the dominating archer has been grinding it out for 20 years now and his titles speak for themselves.i would have to vote for allison fisher also.as for jeanette lee, danny d,and a few others mentioned well let these others in first as there records are far the best to qualify them to the hof.no offense they are great players not quite hof material yet.

If I'm not mistaken, every WPBA member claims she's never gambled.

AND I BELIEVE THEM ! :)

My question is who votes? I'll bet that group is as screwy and disorganized as the sport itself.

I don't know about the other 30 odd people who vote, but I am definitely screwier than the average albino underwater invertebrate. ;)

OK Folks,

My reason for inducting Jose now is; Jose playing in a local Vegas bar box tournament with no entry fee and $50, $30 and $20 payouts. This is just to sad for one of the games greatest players!

Seriously, Jose is a great ambassador for the game of pool. I've never heard him swear. He's never disparaged another player in my presence. He's got way too much gamble. He, like Captain Hook, is more dangerous on the one loss side of the board. He just doesn't understand give up. Don't let this one get away! He deserves recognition now.

just a question... How many non-american members are in the BCA HOF ? Another ? .. JAY HELFERT .. do you remember when a large group of american players tried to have all the overseas players barred from playing in some of the major events in the U.S. ? I DO !!!

H o f

I met him in Atlantic City Last Call Nine Ball Tournament 1986 His first match was against Mike Seigel the night before the match he told me to bet on him he would win and pointed to his heart he won 11 to 1 that was the only match Seigel lost. He played for 10k with Seigel and crushed him I'm not sure if it was one set or two by the way he was really hard to understand

imho he has done more than enough to be there. he is what in his late 50's and still a threat at any event. what more does he need to do? it will be a travesty to see them induct him post humous. he has more than earned his spot in history as one of the greatest to hold a cue.

Pretty interesting thread, and Jose has, quite probably, had a Hall of Fame career. I agree with those who say his gambling shouldn't get in the way of his induction, but I do not think it should count in his favor either. What happens outside of the view of most pool fans does not define a player's career.

When competing against the very, very best for the toughest titles againstthe toughest fields the game has to offer, Jose has not accomplished anything close to what Souquet and Archer have, and each of them are now eligible for induction.

I'll be very pleased if Parica is inducted, but his career cannot logically be considered on a par with at least two other male players who are now eligible.

Good luck to Jose, one of our sports living legends.
