I can't imagine anyone wanting a shaft like that in this day and age with machine technology as it is.

With respect to Rick, I think "who would buy that with the availability of modern machines?" pretty much sums up EXACTLY where, for the most part, the world's mind is at.

Is he any good though??
Hand crafting is rapidly being forgotten in the modern world. CNC makes things easier and faster, further unleashing what was once inconceivable or "impossibly" challenging.
I remember going to the fair as a kid and watching in awe as the carvers work. I don't know if this still goes on, but it is still fascinating. Now, for a fraction of the price, I could buy something that is most likely more accurate....made by a machine.H and made carvings and sculptures are getting more and more rare as few would pay the true value of such pieces of art.
Everything we do as cuemakers has been done with machines(certain extraordinary exceptions apply), so CNC is a natural evolution.
With the advent of the internet I think we lose sight of how easy things are compared to those who broke ground and paved the road. Instead of sitting down with a guy like Jerry Franklin to pick his brain, we Google what we want and it's basically right there.

It's a pretty easy assumption that 95% of the guys on here never would have started, or simply quit quickly, if the enormous amount of information on the internet wasn't available.
So......and to avoid excluding anyone, I'd like to thank those who remember making phone calls and ruining lots of wood trying to learn on there own. I understand how frustrating it can be to see others take it all for granted..
Sincerely,

I wonder how many cue makers use "modern machines" that are metal lathes with hand scraped ways. Never underestimate the quality of hand work from skilled craftsmen.

BTW, I've only seen cross slides scraped..
