Today is AzHousePro's birthday. Let's send him some birthday cheer. Happy Birthday to you, Mike!
Today Mike Howerton remains central to AZBilliards.com as its founder and CEO. He launched the site in June 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona, originally to cover the local Arizona pool scene. Under his leadership, it quickly expanded into a national and then international platform for billiards fans and professionals alike. Mike personally programmed and maintained the site for over a decade, creating what became the largest online database of players, results, and stories in the sport. The site’s growth included popular community forums, live tournament coverage, brackets, rankings, and more.
Over the years his contributions to the billiards world have extended beyond the website: He has served in industry leadership roles, including as a board member of the Women’s Professional Billiard Association (WPBA). Howerton acquired Accu-Stats Video Productions, an extensive archive of classic pool matches, ensuring its preservation and wider accessibility. He has supported organizations like the Billiard Education Foundation and helped manage ranking systems used in the sport. His influence and dedication earned him honors like the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) President’s Award.
In addition to his editorial and technical work, Howerton has hosted and produced cue-sports podcasts (such as Runout Radio and American Billiard Radio), contributed to billiards media, and helped foster a global online community around the sport.
Me thinks it's time that he is inducted into BCA's Hall of Fame.
