Here's a guy that has been in ths shaftwood business longer than most. His shaftwood is used by some of the most recognized and respected cuemakers there are. To be honest, I would not normally reveal this kind of source on this forum, but Chuck would like more business. More business means he'll seek out more good shaft wood logs. I spent a day at his mill in July 08 and was delighted with what I bought. Contact Chuck for pricing and availability. He sometimes has hard curl and birdseye too.

This will surely help a ton of poor souls getting ripped off by some con-dealer who sells "AAAAA" shafts.

I feel like I just watched that magician show where the guy in the mask reveals the secrets behind the tricks.

Thanks for the tip Martin, but you understand that we now have to change the super secret handshake, and you're no longer allowed in the treehouse.

Thanks for sharing the information. I am sure it will be helpful to many.

For the record I have purchased some extra-nice Curly Maple and Bird's Eye Maple from Martin. Every transaction has been a pleasure and the wood when it arrived was as nice as I expected.

Good Cuemaking,

Harry Richards talked about this guy too, had good things to say.

Better than some of the "local" suppliers we have here in FLA, New Smyrna in particular. Feel free to PM me for details.:sorry:

Just spent the day with Chuck Truesdell. Great guy to buy cue maple from. I helped unload the kiln and assisted with dowelling shafts! Nothing like seeing how maple is processed for shaftwood. The shaft dowels were so nice, I bought twice as many as I thought I would! Chuck is currently processing an "old growth" log, about 150years old. I didn't see any low gpi dowels, and I'd ballpark the average gpi at 17-18. Very uncommon these days. The dowels I looked at were exceptionally clear and straight grained. I'd estimate there are still 400+ available.

Lemme guess, you got junk from a group of "gold" shafts?
Out of 10, 4 were crap?

I've been getting all my shaft wood from him for a while now. Nothing but the best and also fellow Michigander. I have a postit with his info stuck on my comp desk.
