The USPPA handicap tournament ended its three day run yesterday and local player Gene Ahola won it ($3,000) and his good friend and practice partner Mike McNeese ($2,000) finished 2nd. The added money tournament drew 100+ players.

Tonight they will run $50 entry fee Mini 9 ball and one pocket tournaments to get the players warmed up for the added money opens.

The added money open 9 ball tournament starts Tuesday, and the field will feature some of the best players in the world. Bustamante will be here and yesterday Chuck told me Cliff Joiner will also come. T-Rex and Bobby Hunter are already on site and there are a couple of players in from Seattle who told me more are coming. Ike Runnels will make the trip from Chicago to be here. Dennis Orcullo won the 9 ball last year & Alex Pagulayan is a past winner. They always get quite a few of the Fillipino players and you can bet they will be in action when the tournament matches are not going on.

The added money One pocket tournament starts Friday, the 22nd, right after the 9 ball is over. Last year T-Rex and Orcullo mixed it up after the tournament and it is a given T-Rex will be in action again. Buddy Hall won this tournament a couple of years ago and you never know how many champions will show up here.

Harry Platis is supposed to come and Bucktooth always shows up, so sparks will fly somewhere.

Try to make it if you can - This will be pool players heaven for the next week or so. John Henderson

It's too bad they changed the 9ball to start during the week, I gotta work all week. I always enjoyed playing the jamboree.

Ditto. And I play one pocket so bad they might not let me in that tournament on the grounds that it would cheapen the event.

John,

Who are the Seattle players coming down? Is Dan Fitzsimmons one of them? I talked with Mount Vernon Ron and he was going to head down that way so I will get reports when he returns.

Well technically they didn't

Since this tournament is run in place of the summer Reno Open which was cancelled they have just kept the same format. The Reno Open pro event was always from Tues. Through Sunday. Because of more tables to use I would imagine they are going to Fri. so that they can play 1p like they did in the Jamborees.
