I just got off the phone with Danny. He and Max start playing in about 10 minutes. Danny says he feels very good and that he is shooting very well. Max is still the guy to beat in this tournament. He is playing awesome and he's keeping guys in the chair for a very long time. This should be a great match.

This will indeed be a good match. Both great shooters have had high runs in the tournament. I wish Danny the best of luck.

I saw some of Max's match against Danny. Whilst Thorsten Hohmann is definitely the man to beat, Max's 10-0 record is awesome. I don't want to take anything from him but the general feeling in the gallery was that Max's pace of play was very slow. His match was way behind the others. There did not appear to be a shot clock.

I think Danny may have opened with a 100+. He was up 98-0 and had started on the next rack.

Are you sure you're not referring to the Danny Charlie Match?

Max Eberle defeated Danny 200-63. Danny played a great tournament. Best of luck to Mad Max!

I grew up in the same town Max's Grandpa lived in. I have seen Max at the Velvet Rail many times. I have always wished him well in tournaments. Normally I would be pulling for Danny, but this time I couldn't. Max has scored 1400 points to all of his opponents combined scores of only 632. No matter what happens tomorrow, Max can be proud of how he has played in this tournament.

Max is truly one of the great guys, as well as a great player. I have seen him at many regional type tournaments and have always noticed what a class guy he is. Best of luck to him to take this tournament.

All I can say is that I am rooting for Max to go undefeated. I like Hohman's game the best of all of them- but I am pleasantly surprised at how well Max must be playing to have this type of record. I hope he keeps it up!

Mad Max Eberle is one of the good guys--anyone mention he's a former Collegiate National Champion? He won it back at James Madison University.

Max Eberle is awesome, he came to UCLA once and did a free pool clinic/exhibition. He even let students challenge him and I, being a chump, played him 9-ball. Of course, he ran out and I never got to shoot, but it was still great of him to come over from Hollywood Billiards and teach us a thing or two. If anyone wants to see him play Johnny Archer at the World Summit of Pool, check out my site at: http://www.xanga.com/sarcastr0/

Like dmgwalsh, I never knew Max was this good at 14.1.

Anyone know if he took lessons from one of the legends like Varner at some point?

He grew up playing with his grandfather and dad. Max has been playing since he could walk...and probably ran 100 balls by the time he was a teenager.

And I think he won the Collegiate National Champion more than once!

Check this LINK,
it is still on Max's website but is no longer linked to. Check out paragraph six.

Several players have won two ACUI championships back to back

Two years in a row...just like Nick Varner, Tony Piazza, and Lars Vardeman.
Lars stands to become the first collegiate player in history to three-peat, if he wins this year's ACUI championship!
