Harris Cues Meltdown on Eddie Wheat Proportions

I found some of Grampas old cues, all nice wrapped up and kept fine. He died form over exertion, he was pulling his bankroll out and the weight of it made him keel over and hit his head. died on the spot. tru story

Anyway they are wrapped up real good except one I unwrapped. it ant fancy like my friends cuetach kue. I'm thinking of painting it some brite colors to make it look beter. I can probably get some gas money for it, or trade it for some shots of cue-rvo.

I don't think they are worth much cause the receipts say they old from 1972 and didnt cost much.. Anyway, they came from some furriner named bala something, maybe george bala?. I dont rede so good my glasses got broke when one of my wives knoked me into a wall last week. She sed I was spending too much time with the dog and I thought she ment the other wive and she got really mad at me, cause the other wive is her sister.

I'll tel ya, never marry sisters, exspecially yer own.

Freddy the Beard sold me my first custom cue. For a cool C-note I got a Burton Spain when I was 15 years old. I flipped it 38 years later for $1500. I hope Freddy is not spinning in his grave over that..... Actually, I think he would have winked and said "nice score Kid"... he called me Kid even when I turned 50 :)

No insurance. Almost impossible to get hurricane insurance in Florida
I own 2 homes in FL and there has never been a problem getting hurricane insurance. It is a little pricy and a high deductible but readily available.

It is a highly speculative investment...and you dont need it

Until you need it.

This has been a common practice in the cue industry since at least the 1970s.

At least, yes. Adam made it huge, but there was a lot before then. Viking did it a helluva lot in the 70's 80's and 90's.

Before then various makers made and/or sold cues that were re-branded. Brunswick, Katz, Rieper.

Mali, A.E. Schmidt, Rich.

And even Palmer.

Valley? Yup.

Dufferin? Yup.

House brands, store brands, name brands...even "custom" brands.

Nothing new about this practice.

Joss? Yup. They made Biagio, Tyler, Longoni, and more.

Yes, we are generally well insured here.

There are a lot of rumors and wive's tales to the contrary.

I had a fiberglass cue once that was made by Minnesota Fats.

I know...it had his name on it.

I think he made a whole bunch of them. I used to see them in Sears and a lot of other stores.

Let me clarify....I didn’t know cue makers will build for another cue maker as Harris did for Sly.

I have no horse in that race and have no idea if that is the case, but certainly cue makers know each other and it is not infrequent that such things have been done.

Frequently we know about it. "Collaborations". Sometimes we don't.

Are you buying a brand or are you buying art?

If a signature is on it, then that is one thing. A trademark? A stamp? A decal? That can certainly be another matter.

There are several cue makers that have given another the right to reproduce their logo for instance. Frequently this is upon their retirement, but not always.

People do occasionally get their balls in an uproar about such matters. Is it a George? A Gus? A Spain? Searing? The Mona Lisa? Generally not. IMHO it takes a long time for the top artists to make their name, sometimes not even until after they die really.

Harris is ticked about flippers and dealers it seems? Hey, so was Dale Perry. That's what led him to Ebay.

Harris apparently blew a cork from what I have read. I have been through 7 hurricanes, I understand. I stay off Facebook so all I have is this thread.

I don't know who made what, who paid for what, or anything of the sort and I will not pretend to.

He is a good cue maker from what I know. I have been referred to him several times and never took advantage of it. Maybe I should have. I dunno.

Insured? Uninsured? Under-insured? Incorrectly insured? I have no idea. But the man is in a seriously bad way apparently. People died. People lost everything.

Why Facebook has to overflow onto AZB I'll never understand.

If a cue maker fraudulently puts a mark or a name on a cue, or produces a cue presented as an original by another maker that he has no right to do then that's a serious matter, even possibly a crime. Anything else is just business.

I've said enough I guess. I don't know if I really have a point except that the whole situation presented here frustrates me.

I don't wish anything bad on anybody.

I hope Harris, Murrell, and any others that got hit hard, cue maker or otherwise, recover.

.

I have a friend who was going to do all the leather wraps for a well known cue maker.
...the deal fell through because of the ivory laws and crossing borders.

I’ve owned Brunswicks made by a few different companies...Dufferin, Falcon, and
Longoni,,,to name three of them.

I spoke to Kenny not too long ago and he told me the news, was very sad to hear that, Kenny is a stand up guy, hope he is able to get things back up and going.

The loss of your shop and equipment would devastate most of us.

I do not know either of these cue makers but I can sympathize with both.

Mr. Harris is under a great deal of stress and it must have caused him to go off the rails.

Mr.Murrell, I am sure, is also feeling the pain but seems to handle it in a more private way.

If it happened to me, I am not sure which way I would react. So my prayers go towards each of them finding a way to restore their shop.

They are both good guys.

WHEN did Joss have anything to do with Longoni? IIRC every cue they've ever made came out of Italy.

I would like to hear the other side of the story. Has Sly commented on any of this yet?

Does not appear he has...which as crazy as Harris is makes me suspect as this post and allegation has been up for days.

-Kat,

So Harris has been making Sly’s Cues for him? Then again he post progress pics of the cues he is making.

I have it on good authority that Harris made these cues for Fats out of wrecked
Corvettes, The same guy told me that Harris and Fats were the same person,
ever see them together.Think about it.

So it even trickles down to custom cues where Harris makes cues for Sly. I guess it works since the consumers think they have variety when it’s just under the Harris/Sly umbrella. I wonder which others are doing this.

To my knowledge, he hasn't given it the time of day. That, coupled with the complete lack of Sly's for sale at the moment (unlike the beliefs of some posters in this thread) and lack of outrage from people who have cues from Leon, speaks volumes.

Edit to add: ...but I'm not on social media/facebook either for that matter. Who knows what could be said on that shithole.

If he didnt build them for Sly, Sly would be on here calling him a liar.
