Has Meucci gone belly up?

I read on another forum that Meucci went bankrupt. Not so sure if it is true, as I own a Meucci, and have 2 black dot shafts, and hope they'll be around for service in the future.

Subsequently, it was reported on that forum, that they're not bankrupt, but that they've become pretty unresponsive to complaints, and repairs take forever, plus some dealers apparently can't get the cues they've ordered in a timely fashion. And then there's the blackdot shaft warpage problem, etc., etc...

Are they still really in business?

Brace yourself for all the, "I hope they've gone bankrupt" replies. :D

I hear they make a hell of a toilet plunger.

Well, if that's what some people think, and they are subsequently thrashed by someone wielding a Mooch, too bad for them. I wonder if they'll come down with a complex? Losing to someone with "inferior" equipment must be pretty tough... LOL

Yeah, those Meucci's are horrible ;). No pros have ever won any big tournaments with Meucci's, right...?

Nick Varner
Buddy Hall
Efren Reyes
Reed Pierce
Jim Rempe
Mike Sigel (yes..Mike had a custom Meucci at one time)
......should I keep going?

Personally, I shoot with a Schon cue. I'm just saying that a lot of fantastic players have shot with Meucci's. One of them is my dad who has played for 45 years, is retired, and could afford any cue(s) in the world that he wants. In fact he probably has 20 or more nice cues sitting in cases in his office (besides the 10 or so of mine that were left back home) collecting dust. He prefers his old Meucci Gambler.

I just find it amusing to see people who have been playing (and I'm just saying this in general) all of two years, and might own some off brand, supposedly "custom" cue..who love to jump on a Meucci bashing bandwagon when they're clueless as to what they're talking about.

There are several different kinds of bankrupt.

Most that you hear about are just protection from debtors so they can continue to opperate.

Restructuring the finances and such.

I for one can call myself a Muecci Basher. But I have shot with many many manyyyyyyyyyyy of them. About 80% of my APA league uses them. And alot of them are the same model!!! Urks my nerves to see 5-0 shooters with the same cue! But anyways I only mysef have been playin goin on 2 years (funny huh) and I shot my best games with a Muecci HP-3. Im a 6 in my APA 9ball league and I have ran over 5's 46-14, 46-19, 46-10 using this cue. Any other Muecci I jsut cant shoot really well with. I find the Black Dot shaft very whippy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Good Shaft but whippy. I guess cause Muecci is the trendy cue in my area as to why I dont care for it. Thas why I love Joss, McDermott, Schons, and customs. Lots of players around my area dont use them that much, there is a few that own one or the other.

I jsut think Muecci needs to come up with some new designs, Kinda tired of seein 10 cues of the same model in the same bar!!

Anywho never mind my post :)

Jim Rempe actually playing with Meucci and is (was anyway) sponsored by them as is (was) Loree John Jones.

I had repair dealings with meucci about a year ago and that is why my Meucci is now becoming my bar cue. I sent the cue back because you could feel all the inlays through the finish and I wanted it fixed. After about 6 monthes of no response they told me they miss placed the cue and would have to send me another one. After another 4 monthes of phone calls (weekly) to the repair department to find out whenmy cue was coming, I was told that it has been shipped. I waited for tracking number after tracking number and finally said forget it and bought a new one from a internet dealer for half the price. When my cue finally showed up a whole year later it was staind a totally different color then the one I sent back.

After writting a letter to the head of the repair department and Bob Meucci they thought they could make it all better by sending me a free break cue.
During this whole time I was told by the head of the repair department that they were moving there shop north to another state in the near future and that was the reason for dsome of the issues.

I will never again think of Meucci as a reputable cue maker or any kind of business to deal with.

Just thought I would share my experience.

Matt,
Ive been playing for a long time and I admit my first cue that I bought was a Meucci way back in the late 80s.. At that time the quality of the cues were still pretty good. Shafts were straight but had the trademark flex hit to it. Was fine..

Since Ive been selling cues the last 3 years, Ive noticed that the quality of their cues have drop immensely. Every shipment of Meucci that I get, some of the shafts were warped. I mean bad!! I even have a supplier that refuses to carry Meuccis with black dot shafts. They still sell them with red dot shafts. Go figure..

FWIW,
Erik

If the black dot is whippy you should ask them to make you a shaft out of titanium,,,, you can polish it and everything

They seem to still be doing somewhat decent....

I heard through a dealer that it is true. Bob is back working out of his garage.

Bob has gone back to making a few custom Bom Meucci Custom (BMC) cues personally, I think maybe at his home rather than the Meucci factory (otherwise folks would say they were just another Meucci production cue). That doesn't mean anything is fiscally wrong with Meucci.

BTW, a close friend just had one of Bob's customs made to his specs....VERY sweet cue!!

Must be because their shafts are whippy.

I have a Meucci SE4 that came with two shafts. Beautiful stick and everything is straight. Hits great.

I ordered a black dot shaft with a LePro tip, got it within a week, very straight.

The people there were very friendly and the whole order was a pleasure.

I play with a Schon because it feels like my old Joss West that I was stupid enough to sell several years ago. I started with the Joss West and that was what I got used to.

I know several people who play with older Meucci's and wouldn't play with anything else. I think a lot depends on what you start with and what you get used to.

If any of them want to play me with a broomstick I will empty my bank account and bet it all.

Old Meuccis are great. New Meuccis are unreliable because of quality control problems. The Meucci I had was cosmetically defected because an inlay wasn't done right, but it played alright. My friend's Meucci has no cosmetic defects, but it doesn't hit very well.
