Has this ever happened to you?

Last night I was trying to make a shot where the cue ball was out in the middle of the table. I had to have my cue at about 80 degrees and the butt of my cue struck the globe over one of my pool table lights. So, it of course breaks into 1,000 pieces on my pool table felt.

My question is this, how do you get all those tiny little pieces that you can barely see? I started with a vacuum then I wrapped tape around my hand and tried to pick them up that way. I thought I had them all until I slid my bridge hand on the table and drove one of the shards into my finger.

So whats next? New felt?!?

I'd do what you have already done, but MORE of it. Use the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner hose and use light (as to not "grind" the glass deeper into the cloth) circular motions to loosen the smaller shards. Then, go to WallyWorld and get some of those adhesive lint rollers and once again roll these lightly over the cloth. Enough of this ought to eventually get the glass out (at least the problem-size pieces). If you were in the market for some new cloth anyway, I guess now would be as good a time as any to pull the trigger on that idea.

Good luck!!!

Maniac (who is as yet to ever bust out a pool table light)

LINT ROLLER!!!! Now why didn't I think of that! Good idea, now, I wonder if I will be able to find a replacement globe.

BTW to anyone else who might have stabbed themselves repeatedly with tiny glass shards, after you wash your hands lay off of the sanitizer!

Yeah, you might want to steer clear of anything alcohol based and ketchup.
MULLY
salt would suck all kinds of ass too

An old bartender's trick...

Wet cotton balls.

Wet the cotton, and dab it on the cloth.

When someone would break a glass, there was the possibility of shards getting in the ice. So we would drain the ice water, dump the ice cubes, and wipe the sink/tray with wet cotton balls. Picked up the shards pretty good.

I don't know how that would work on felt, but it might be worth a shot...

Think about plastic light globes :eek::banghead::banghead:
You also might want to post this in the ask a mechanic section.

Before you recover the table, try a wet/dry vac like the one in the garage.

If that doesn't work, I'd buy a box of Band-Aids and tweezers or recover the table.

When I read the question thats initially what came to my mind. I guess vacuum, lint roller, vacuum, lint roller... Good luck that sucks!

yes it has once a week. I used to own a couple of pool rooms. A strong shop vac would get it up. Brushing also helps. The pool cloth is such that it doesn't really get into the cloth that much, not like it would on say carpet. There are clear plastic tubes you can get to put over the bulbs, (I am assuming florescent) that will protect them. When they get old the glass seems to get brittle.. When they are new you can whack them and not break them but after a few years they will shatter with just a touch sometimes.

What everyone else says, vaccum more, and brush the table.

Back in 1979 I was at a nightclub called the "Retreat" in Camden,Arkansas, it was late-night and packed, well I broke the balls and my cue came up and hit the (neon light), it shattered, well the owner got someone to vac it up, and brush the table, but said he didn't think they had another light.

I was getting pissed because this was the only pool table open and I was playing for $10 a rack 9-Ball, the owner finally found a sparelight in the backroom, he told me that I owed him 5 bucks for the light, and he said "Slow down Harcrow!":grin-square:
