UNBELIEVABLE MATCH! This match had EVERYTHING! Great pool all the way around, with super safeties and escapes, great shot making and one surprise after another. Both players played great and awful at the same time, the table biting them every time they had a lapse in concentration. I loved working this match, one of the most exciting I've ever been a part of.
Dennis was crestfallen after the loss but there really weren't any losers here. It was such a great show! Kudos to Daniel Busch and the POVPOOL team. What a way to start with a match like this. It was pure TAR if I can be so bold to say so. Hopefully for those of you that missed it Daniel will make it available some way.
Dennis is one of those competitors that wears his emotions on his sleeve and Carlo keeps it all bottled up inside. But believe me, they both were sweating blood last night! This was the real deal, as raw as it gets in pool. Two warriors battling man to man all the way to the finish line. I loved it!

This was one for the ages. To see a Pinoy champion miss balls and position is something you do not see that often. Dennis charging back after Carlo was up 6 games to nothing was a site to behold. Dennis at one point jacking up and firing in a ten ball all the way across the table not because he needed to but just showing he was confident.
In these long races players execution and focus seem to wax and wane. In the begining I thought I am wasting my money, Carlo is just going to run away with it; then Dennis stepped up and played very well. Dennis after coming roaring back seemed to fade for a while and let Carlo back into the game and into the lead. Both players got some rolls but it seemed to me that Carlo was rolling safe a lot after missed shots. This is a brutal fact of rotation games and Dennis was very vocal about it. When Carlo missed his safe shot and did not find a rail late in the match, I thought that is it he is folding up his tent. When it went hill hill I was rooting for Dennis as he was trailing the whole match and Carlo still has years ahead of competition. Dennis got the last break and had an open table and then after running a few balls, missed a ball out in the open a shot to the corner pocket, just routine and a easy shot and then run out for a champion player. After that miss I thought he was going to have to be put on suicide watch. Don't loan this guy your Ginacue as it might get table smacked. You got to hand it to Carlo for hanging in there an winning the thing. There were a lot of happy Pinoys in attendance. It was almost like a mini Masconi cup match.
POVPOOL and Jay Helfert should be very proud of this kind of content it was first class and I know that I got more than my moneys' worth out of it although it kept me up passed my bed time.

Hatch is a second tier player??? THAT STATEMENT IS STRAIGHT UP RETARDED!! He should have won that match!! If Hatch wouldn't have been punished for Biado missing so balls every time he shot straight up in the air, things might have been different! It's a complete miracle Hatch didn't win that match...I will say this though, that match was one of the most exciting I have ever witnessed, and Dennis Hatch showed why he is one of the strongest money players out there. Biado is a great player also!! If they played again who knows what could happen. To make Hatch some kind of a huge underdog against anyone is ludicrous....Both players dug very deep in that match and Hatch showed a lot of heart coming back at the end with some really good outs, when he had too....Thanks Daniel for producing this EPIC battle!!! Thanks Jay for the masterful play by play commentating, great job as usual!!

Who is this Jeff Ignacio? First time I heard his name mentioned was during the last TAR when Efren was asked who is currently the best player in the Philippines that have not been to the US yet. This might be Carlo's year but who knows it might be Jeff's next year. How old is Jeff and how does he compare with Biado, Orcullo and Corteza? Who are currently on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier list of players in the Philippines?
i only know what im told from some pinoy friends but there are matches of jeff on youtube that ive seen. he goes by jeff diaz or jeff ignacio, i think hes early 20s. there s another guy named johann chua who hasnt been over here yet that plays amazing, theres some matches of him on youtue as well. they call hum "bubwit" i forget what it means. ive heard the name oliver villafuerte as well but never seen him play. those are probably the best 3 that havent been over here yet as far as i know. best players are probably still dennis o., lee van, maybe carlo now. again, just 2nd hand information
I hate to sound like an apologist but even though it was a long race. Biado got the vast majority of the rolls. They both played great. The five ball (I think it was the five) in the upper corner pocket I'm still mystified on how it didn't go in. That's the story on hyper-tough equipment. Some balls that you think should just don't go home.

They're both signed up for the tourney at Hard Times Sacramento starting today... they're probably both traveling right now or getting ready. One pocket the next two days and nine ball Fri-Sun. Wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple of designated action/"challenge" tables set aside.

I wasn't to impressed with Jeff's performance in the match above. Seems like he's a couple/few balls back from Biado's level. He can get out, but he's got quite a ways to go to reach the 1st-Tier Pinoy level... :thumbup:

. Johann Chua is another rising star over there. But as I've said before there must be a hundred or more guys who travel the country just looking for money games. All of them play good and some play great. Guys like Dennis and Carlo know all these guys and have played many of them. Only a few can get in the box and play even with the Tier One pros (Dennis, Carlo, Francisco, Lee Vann, Alex). Most of the top hustlers over there get some kind of weight from the pros we are familiar with. Jeff Diaz is one of the few who can play even with them.
Those tables are so tough that I don't think I would bet I could shoot a ball from the center of the table into a corner pocket with ball in hand 20x in a row.
I wouldn't bet i could pocket 20 consecutive cue balls from center table...without object balls.

Dennis was one of the young guns coming up about the time I quit playing. I haven't seen him play in a few years, but if people think he plays second tier speed, he must not play anything like he used to, as he had as high a gear as about anyone living. If he's second tier in the U.S. that would make Shane the only top tier American player.
Speaking of only American players when talking about the tiers is foolish. There is only one full time professional pool player in the entire USA and he is the only tier 1 player.
The tier 1 players are the best players in the world, there are probably about 20 of them, and Dennis Hatch is in no way one of them.
I am not saying he is not talented, but tier 1 guys are SVB, Orcullo, Wu, Ko, Hohmann, ect... level guys. Hatch is simply not equal to any of those guys.
