Sorry so long...
Today I once again had the opportunity to join Mark (bfdlad) Johnny Archer, and Nick Varner for the Legends Tour stop here in Dallas. I went last year with Johnny and Earl, had a great time and learned a lot. However, the 2009 edition was fantastic. The mood was low key, casual, and ripe for learning. Nick (who i had first) took a more "open forum" approach and let us ask specific questions about whatever interested us (sorry to say the boxers vs briefs question was overlooked) Everyone had great questions and as usual Nick open up completely. IMO he perfectly articulates his approach and immediately puts you at ease with his casual but confident demeanor. There's a reason this guy has won 8 ( i think) World Championships in different disciplines. The questions ranged from HIS pre-shot routine, long cut's, even 1pocket breaks.
Johnny was the same perfect gentleman he always is(as was Nick). We started with a few shots so he could see how we looked shooting the balls. From there we talked about and answered any questions we had. It was nice to ask another champion basically the same question and see the subtle differences in how they address and think about the same situation, very enlightening. To finish up our segment with Johnny, each one of us played him a game of 8ball, and talked about what we were doing and why all the way through the rack. Last year I nearly beat him but missed an EASY shot right before the 8 and lost (big surprise). I have cold sweats at night thinking about how easy that shot was and how bad I missed
Well this time I got him. I managed to break and run the rack so I can now say "Why yes, I have beaten a world champion"
Of course many of the details, like the fact that it was one game, may have to be left out.
All in all it was a great time. Mark Cantrill deserves applause for all his hard work. If ANY of you AZ'ers get the chance, you really need to catch the Legends Tour. Well worth your time and money IMO
