Have the LD technology improve the pro players level?

I can't even imagine.......

What do you think guys? Have all those predators, ob, etc.. shafts really improve the level of the pool game in the last maybe 15 years?

Do the nowadays players play better pool than the 90's players (archer, strickland, hall, etc..) due to these shafts?

Have this technology taken the game of pool to a superior level?

I quit pool from 1999 until 2008 for the most part.

When I came back to the game I could not believe how many players were playing at a higher level.

Then I started using a 314-2 and I understood. Right now I"m using a Z shaft. It really does make it easier to pocket ball and move the cue ball around. There are some things you can't do but the pros really do outweigh the cons.

These shafts have raised the level of play for everyone. Not only the pro.

I have a question, What tip works best with LD shafts, pool and billiards?
I would think a certain tichkness, hardness would make a difference.
Any thoughts?
I tried a Tiger LD X shaft for billiards, didn't like it, no feeling.
Here's a quote from my tip hardness effects resource page:
There are many factors related to tip hardness that could influence squirt, including: tip density/weight, tip efficiency, contact time, "effective endmass" due elastic-wave travel-distance during contact time (see endmass for more info), etc. My August '08 BD article documents some experiments related to the effects of tip hardness on squirt. A softer tip did seem to create slightly more squirt, but the experiments were not very well controlled (see the article for more info). Weight differences would definitely have an effect. If a tip is heavier, it will certainly create more endmass and squirt.

I have a thought that really shouldn't be ignored... the better the player, the less english they require to put onto the cue ball to achieve control (ie. better stroke). A LD shaft will help someone using more english more so than someone using less english and allownig their stroke to do the "work". Watching the strongest players makes this game seem unbelievably easy because they truly do not often get out of line, requiring making difficult shots, and make percentage based decisions at all times.

The LD shaft effect as a result would be inversely proportional to skill. That being said, if said pro learned with LD shaft, they would be used to it and consider it part of their "feel". I have discussed with a short-stop levelled friend and he can't say enough about his LD dues but I dislike them from the hollow sounding hit.

One last comment, if LD shafts definitely improve skill level for all people involved, anyone who competes and is serious would HAVE to own a LD shaft or they couldn't compete. They would be at such a statisitical disadvantage that they would have to make the change. I don't think everyone will ever use a LD and I would suspect a statisical difference would be very difficult to proove.

I agree Geno :) I just started using an OB Classic Pro, and it is...awesome.

I admit, I'm old school, I prefer American made cues, and like 9 ft tables, I came to the party VERY late, but once some very great players (state masters) told me they love LD shafts and how it allows them to use more English, and still hit the middle of the pocket, I decided to take a shot with an American made OB Sneaky Pete, and if I didn't like it, I could just throw it on Ebay, and so the most I'm gonna lose is a double saw buck...

But not only did I not sell it on Ebay but ordered another shaft so I can put it on my Carmeli cue.....

I loved the cue right away..... I can hit inside English with ease..... and that is the difference, yes some folks are just "gifted" and can hit it those type of shoots with a broom stick, but for the rest of us mere mortals it makes it a lot easier and much more fun, cause winning is always better than losing, no matter what sport you are playing :)

Well as far as I concern, I think 95% of shots are better with a solid maple shaft. But this 5% in which you have to use side spin english are more easy by far with a LD shaft.
