Have you ever bought a cue without having tried it?

As the title says, I'm looking to buy a cue, unfortunately nobody in my poolroom has that type of cue and I'm thinking of buying it without having tried it.

Yes.

Of course, I live east of the middle of nowhere, so I have no option, save for buying second hand from someone local. I wanted a new cue, found one that I liked the look of that was in my price range, and ordered it.

I like it. Most folks who try it do, too.

I bought my mezz without trying it first, and my schon thats on its way now I bought without trying.

Im sure you wont be disappointed with the Schon. I cant wait to get mine.

I too live out in the middle of nowhere, so ALL my cues have been bought "untested"...some are keepers...some aren't! If I like the hit, I might get another from the same maker...

Sure have. I am the original owner of a few custom cues, all of which were ordered prior to them being made - so it would have been pretty difficult to try them first. :D

Yes. I bought a Scruggs sneaky without trying it. I bought it to add to my sneaky collection and because i got a decent deal on it. Whats funny is that I hate the hit of it and have only played with it maybe 3 or 4 times.

Often, the ones I did try first I was buying anyway. My only disappointment has been an F82 Viking, changing out the tip to a softer tip helped but it still has a "hard" hit and sound. Had I tried that stick first I would probably not have bought it. All the others, Mostly McDermotts have been wonderful. Today I received one of my Twin Dale Perrys off of eBay and it is terrific.
If it has a brass joint and a carved dragon with a cane handle you might want to try that one.

Just bought a Pechauer without trying it, love it.

Once you know what "stats" you like, you are more likely to like the cue.

If you buy a cue with a good resale value, you are not taking much risk in buying without trying.

I live in the middle of nowhere too, close to Los Angeles :)

The thing is this is my first cue and I probably stick with that cue for a long time and I'm a little "worried" I could not like the hit. Also do you think a schon is too much for being the first cue? I always played with house cues ( 5 years)

Slh,

Bought the last three without trying them first. Thirty years ago, Mike Sigel walked into our pool room with a bunch of Meucci's. Didn't like what I saw but I ordered a DH3 Original. Ten years later, A good friend who was reselling cues offered me a new Schon Six Windows. Still have that cue and the original shafts which I play "daily" with. A few years ago Southwest Airlines "misplaced" my cue case and cues on the way home from Vegas. Not going to do that again so I ordered a new cue. Different pin and joint. Different tip and ferrule. As much different as I could think of except the weight. Bought it when it was ready. Found after a week of daily play it hit the balls every bit as well as the Schon. Left it in Vegas so I don't have to travel cues again. Buy the Schon. You will never regret it. Great quality at a reasonable price! Only problem is you might see another player with the same cue. Can you stand to see that :p?

Everyboby has

Bought and sold 50+ cues..., curently have 10, but I only play with 2 of them, plan to sale/trade the rest at the BCA in Vegas.

It doesnt matter if you hit some balls with a cue most of the time, unless you play with it enough to tell if you are comfortable with it under pressure
and making you normal shots, you wont know if its going to work for you.

Could take a while if you dont play much
