Have you ever felt like a new cue instantly improved the level of your game?

This may sound like a really silly question, but have any of you ever tried a new cue out, and then instantly felt more confidence then you have ever felt with any other cue that you have ever tried in the past?

This would be a cue that just felt perfect for you (perfect feel, perfect balance, perfect hit, and just all around perfect for you, as if the cue was made for you, to be perfect just for you in every way).

You may be thinking that such a cue does not exist, and that this type of dream hitting cue could never be found (if you have never picked up a new cue, and instantly felt like your game greatly improved, and you have all of this confidence that you never had before, with any other cue that you ever used in the past).

Anyways, I understand that it would be pure luck (in my opinion) for this type of dream hitting cue to ever be found (no matter how much money you have to spend on a cue, and no matter who you order a cue from).

If you have found that perfect dream hitting cue, then it would be best for you to never let it go (no matter what), because you may not ever find that perfect cue (seemingly perfect in every way) again.

I am just curious to read replies from those of you that were able to find that perfect cue (that gave you all the confidence in the world with), and not that it matters, but any details about the cue would be cool to know (and I completely understand that just because that cue is/was perfect for you, does not mean that it would be perfect for anyone else).

Thanks for any replies about maybe a cue that you have, or had (and really regret letting go) that made you feel more confident then any other cue that you ever used before.

Player's sneaky pete...the cheapest one they offer with a LePro tip. You should get one and practice with it. The more you practice, the more perfect it feels.

One time I got a new cue, learned an aiming system, and got my hair cut all on the same day.

Offered Shane the 7, and he declined.

True story.

I always feel that way

and I sell every cue the first time i lose with it
I got the reputation of being a dealer because I sold so many

But every time i get a new cue,it cheers me up

For me, every cue does that...........for the first few hours.
Then it's back to reality. lol

I kinda look at my cues like my women I thought they were the best thing ever than the hunnymoon is over and that same feeling is just gone but there's that one who's special and you keep going back to it ,, I have a cue that fits the bill , one time I'm playing a room owner he beats me 7 -0 I missed several shots , I told him hold on a minute I go out side grab my little darling he breaks the next set makes nothing I run out , break and run the next four, break one in on the break play safe he gives me ball in hand I run out again and break n run out to even the set , then he had to go to work lol
On another occasion I'm playing with a local sharp shooter Matt Clatterbuck Mike painter and I think toney Watson on a 10 dollar table at the Xbo I'm stuck 80 I go back to my room and grap my 314 in place of my Z2 get back it win my 80 back pluse 80 then they left for bigger fish
I fell victim to the same phenomenon couple weeks ago a guy Iv been playing even one pocket with brings in his old faithful and hardly missed a bank beat me 5 straight games
I quit told him I'll play him again with his other cue lol

Not every cue but I'm more than sure some do funny thing is the clicking of the heels might just come well after the pockets are full Iv wiped a many of bars out well before that then there's the story of running a rack with a window shade , I'll leave that for another day

Every time I had a new cue come my way my game instantly improved.
So I figured in another hundred or so cues I'd likely be a world contender.
I just started too late in life but then the stupid CA ban happened and so
Obladi Oblada........but more seriously, sure it does help your game but
that's only initially.......your interest gets piqued.....you try harder......and
in most instances, the player doesn't or can't maintain that level of focus.

Ergo, their pool game returns to normalcy because the trick is never in the
bow or the arrow brand. It always comes down to the archer....Ditto in pool.
A new cue eliminates any & all equipment excuses. It's always the shooter.

Absolutely !!
The min i played with a southwest , i gave Busty 6 n the break then i lose to Efren.
So i decided to get a Judd Fuller which Efren played with n i raped him so badly he decided to go for cataract replacement n then i lose to Jayson Shaw.
So what do i do, i call up Bob Moochi and told him what happen , he explained in depth that my game is lacking a Moochi Pro Shot shaft with his highly powered piston butt and i can offer Jayson the 2 ball .
Wait a sec , is it the 10 ball or 2 ??!
After we done playing , Jayson never seem to grew his hair out again.

Morale of the story Justin ,, u gotta use whatever the pros play with to beat em.
If u cant beat em join em.
I suspect im getting a cuetec r360 and i will be a finalist in the world 9ball for the next 2 yrs so check me out at the next world 9 ball, dont even bother rooting for Shane becoz i willl be taking his spot !!
Anyone knows what dennis "handshake" orcollo play with ?
I need to be in touch with the cuemaker soon , pls pm me for Dennis cud contact info guys.

Good luck Justin !

I'm going with 9ballr, on this one.
Most everything is like that. New clothes, new haircut, new car. It isn't long, however, until the new wears off and we're faced with the same old, same old.
My first wife went to get a face lift. They started with a thirty ton house jack and wound up with sixty percent dynamite. Sometimes it's just not there. :)

It's called the placebo effect. Only last a few days tops, with a new cue to me. Johnnyt

Yes, many times. The feeling usually goes away by the second week. My Mezz, however, did instantly increase my playing level and this has lasted for 6 months. I think I've got a keeper, here. The cue perfectly fits my stroke and alerts me when I hit shots poorly, because there is a lot of feedback from the stiff shaft. This in turn makes me work harder on my stroke, which increases my level of play etc..

When people say all cues play equally well, I laugh. I doubt they even believe that themselves. Price and playability is not always linked, however, and there seems to be no objective criteria for determining wether a cue is good or not. All the factors that are measured, deflection, tip diameter, balance point, cue weight, wrap/no wrap etc. are all matters of personal preference (within reason). No cue is going to make a C player an A player, that is true, some cues will be better for you than others. though. I can tell you right now several brands of cues, which would make me play terribly, even though others love them. I tried a famous custom, with which I couldn't make a ball. It was completely ridiculous. I guess I'm quite picky about my cues. I need the deflection to be within a certain range, because I use a bit of sidespin. I need a certain weight because I play on fast tables, and heavy cues tend to make me overrun shots. I need a certain taper, because when the cue is too whippy, it doesn't give me feedback etc. etc.

Yes, once. It took me a couple of sessions to realize what was so different about that cue. But every shot played the same regardless of how hard I hit the cue ball. My confidence increased substantially and I learned to simplify my mechanics while shooting. I bought the cue. 19 years later, it is still my favorite.

^ What model and shaft are you playing with straightpool :)

I personally use all new equipment for an hour or two before just to get in feel if it is worth spending time on getting used to. I have sold a couple Mezz cues after just hours playing with them as they just felt wrong for me. If I feel I play okay with a new cue and like it, I will keep playing with it for a month or so before deciding for good if it is better suited for me than the old cue :)

Same goes for shafts and tips, I rather cut off a brand new laminated premium tip after a few days that feels bad and replace it with a cheap milkdud that I know I like or try a different hardness.

Not sure what the model is called (I bought it used). The shaft is WD 700.

I've kept and played with different styles of cues in respect to weight and shaft configuration for years. This has allowed me to test the shot making process under a lot of different conditions. I play a little differently with each shaft because of the squirt potential but play my best with 12.80 regular maple. If I only owned 1 cue I would want different types of shafts for it so I could explore my game with other techniques although I have settled on what I like to play with best for the most part.

Its still a lot of fun to switch from time to time, it makes the game new again.

It's called "New Cue Syndrome."

I think it is still under study by the American Psychiatric Association and may some day be listed in their "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders."
