Have YOU ever fired an air barrel?

Yup...used to do it a lot in my younger, dumber, and fuller of cummer days.

When I first started playing pool, some kid fires air at me for like $160. Then he tells me he can't pay (lmao, I would have just ran out the door). So, now I'm pissed and about to kick this guy's ass. He offers me his Cuetec as payment and I accept it (yay, my first cue). Ironically, I was shooting an empty wallet at him too. Cuetec gets stolen about a week later...karma's a *****.
 
I've never fired a true air barrel though when I was a kid we did on occasion play for money we didn't have on us (owe-zeez). We all knew each other and it was disclosed before hand ("Yeah I'll play but I'm light right now. If I lose I'll catch up with you tonight").
 
I did it once not long ago against a guy I had played and beaten before. I'm a rookie at playing for money and let somebody talk me into doing it because the guy was woofing. I ended up winning, but my conscience was eating at me the entire time. I didn't really enjoy the game and almost considered not taking the money. Almost.
 
I wouldn't gamble if I didn't have the money. Just seems sort of immoral to me.

I've never really been air barrelled before either. Not for anything worth while at least. But then again, I don't gamble much because it isn't why I play pool. I just don't enjoy it that much. It isn't that I loose, I just don't see the pleasure in it.

I have seen someone air barrell so badly over a long period of time building up a considerable debt that they had to give the winner their $3000+ Tim Scruggs.

I have never fired a true air barrel I always had the money just might not be in my pockets. Now for the other side I had a guy fire one at me but being that I'm 6'5" about 300lbs and a reputation of knowing how to handle myself I got his watch, jewelry and cues.

yeah once, for $10 when i first started playing, I had been playing for maybe 6 months in the poolroom. One day I lost everything in my pocket to someone else maybe $50-$60. A guy I knew I could beat asked me to play for $10 race to 5, I won 5-2. I beat him for $20. Her pulled up. I played another guy since I got up $20, and got out about even for the day. That was back when you could play 5 guys a day for $$$ in the same pool room. Only did it once, didnt feel rite to me.

as far as real action no never in life would I fire air, the rule is post or I dont play.

About 5 years ago I was in Bogies one Sunday afternoon and Ronnie Allen got into a game wiht a local giving him 9-7 for $100 per game. Ribbie brokemade a ball and Ran out. Up $100.
The other guy broke and hit em real badly. Tonnie ran about 6 balls and then stuck it to him nicely and won that game. Ronnie is up $200!
now the guy raises the bet to $200 per game.
Ronnie now makes a ball on the break again and gets 7 balls out of it. the guy shoots straight up in to the air and slops a ball in his pocket and runs the other 6 balls to get even.
Ronnie shaking his head unscrews and starts telling those tales and just jabbering.
Finally the guy asks for the $200 which will get him even. Instead Ronnie says,"I am going to have to owe you that one"!
The opponet mad enough to chew nails, says,"Well at least give me my $200 back and we just break even"?
Ronnie without missing a beat says,"Are you crazy, my last $200"?
The few of us watching nearly fell out of our chairs. I have not seen anyone that mad in some years now.

ive done that and lost with friends for small $$$ accidentally a few times. but only with people who im real tight with. like you, i might forget my $$ and play. More times i have played pool and realized is didnt have table time $$$, its just a accident.

That's what Danny McGoorty called "playing on your nerve". About 20 years ago in Layfayette LA I was playing a guy BB 8 ball for $10 a rack...he played me that "one more" game after I'd busted him. He lost and couldn't pay up. Pi$$ed me off so much I made him give me his cheap high school class ring. Still got it.
