Heartless apa lo !!!

cold heartless lo

I felt sorry for your team and it sure put us in an awkward position. I am glad you did as well as you did. With another bullet (match to lose) you might have done even better.

Your team showed class, and I respect that. Furthermore, this was my first session here and all the teams we played showed class and I think they all should be proud of the teams.

Ken

When we finally get the whole story of what actually happened we find out that the lo gave them their options and they chose one. What a terrible guy he must be. get a life all you whiners and bashers. Talk about being good for pool, the complainers and cry babies that constantly post negative things on this forum don't do anything for pool other than dirty it up for the rest of us.

Here are the facts

APA League Operator owns a bar of his own with 11 tables. Just to spread the wealth to other bars in his area he had the LTC at several different locations. APA League Operator (not present) got a call about the incident. He immediately called both captains to talk with them. There were a lot of players there that had taken off work and could not come back for another tournament. The captains understood and agreed to continue play. APA League Operator said nothing about forfeits to the manager of the bar who is a TAP League Operator.

After reading more on the subject, I now wish to retract any and all disparaging remarks I said in any post I made here on this thread about the League Operator in question. I am going to make it my policy from now on to NEVER say anything negative about anybody I have read something about on this website if I have not myself been a witness to any behavior that may be deemed unsuitable to any person or persons. I feel badly that I spoke to soon without hearing the facts from more than one source. I at least owe the LO in question an apology, and here it is: I am truly sorry! Please accept my apology.

I am going to try to be a little slower on the finger-pointing in the future.

None of us really knows the truth. I suspect Ken didn't really know the whole truth when he started the thread, and he was there.

The posts by Evan and Kybanks seem to corroborate, but we don't know for sure that they're not the same person, do we? By the way, did anyone else notice that Kybanks wiped his post? I wonder why that was? No matter, it's quoted in several replies, so anyone who wants can still see it.

The moral of the story is pretty clear - don't believe everything you hear, or read. If someone refuses to provide details when asked, it usually means they are protecting someone, often themselves. They can say anything as long as it can't be verified. I don't think that's what Ken did here (he did pm me his personal info, which I passed on to the national office as promised). I think he really believed everything he posted about the LO. But I gotta wonder why he chose to post here instead of contacting the LO directly?

Response

Here is the latest.

I got a call from the league operator this afternoon. He is sending a letter out that I am suspended from the APA for a year.

To be fair, the League Operator, called me and was quite civil and we had a good discussion. I had never met him or even talked to him before this call.

He did give me the story that some people (how many I am not sure) had taken vacation days to play in the tournament (again it is an every night deal verses the normal night that you play league). While this may be true, I never considered it, and I told him that I didn't know this and frankly hadn't considered it.

I have been told that the LO did, in fact, talk to both captains, and did tell them that the tournament schedule could not be changed and if it required a forfeit, it would not be changed.

Rick and I agreed to disagree. I still think the moral and right thing to do would have been to reschedule. Even after Rick was made aware of a guy having a heart attack, firetrucks, policemen and paramedics called to the seen and the guy being "jump started" literally 7 times, I never saw him or talked to him. So for those who say I should have contacted the League Operator before posting, I think seeing a League Operator that night, anytime that night might have helped. Maybe showing up at the site in person might have answered some questions too. In my heart, I know if a player in my league was dying or at least having serious health issues, I would made an effort to be there, comfort the player and discuss the issues with all of the players in person.

My point is APA is just a social league. It is meant to introduce mainstream folks into pool, and it has done a decent job at it. But we shouldn't lose site it is just a social league and the tournament was in June for a place in August.

In fairness to LO, he told me he isn't a heartless &%@#@. He maintains that postponing the tournament that night would have impacts on other players and that they wouldnt have been happy.

Ken

Thanks for the update, Ken! I guess now that the smoke has kind of cleared, it appears that this was just not gonna turn out well for SOMEONE. It's a shame that some other solution could not be reached.

I wish they'd ban ME from the APA for a year !!!

You should feel lucky to be suspended...just a shame it wasn't for life!!
You are the NIT for playing in that league anyway!!:thumbup:

Really? That's nuts! WHY???

I wish they'd ban ME from the APA for a year !!!

I made a choice... and I'm happy about it!

I am confused. Why are you suspended, Ken? For talking about it here?
So you are banned for speaking your thoughts freely?... Nice

Freedom of speach.. anyone hear of that? Did any apa members have to sign an agreement not to speak about the apa? This is rediculous!

You should feel lucky to be suspended...just a shame it wasn't for life!!:

If that's the way it's run, then I agree.

Some opinions...

After reading this entire thread, and the opinions and statements of various members of this forum, I have a few thoughts. I'm not trying to call anyone out, I'm just trying to comprehend.

1) The night this incident happened, could the league operator have come to the site ?

2) If the team captains spoke with the LO via phone, and were told "play or forfeit" (I imagine it was stated more tactfully than that), did the team captains NOT communicate and discuss this information to thier team ?

3) Was Ken not in the room or too distraught to hear this information if it WAS relayed ? (No disrespect is intended with this statement, Ken. Something like that probably would've shaken me up pretty good, too).

4) Does the LO have an email that Ken could have addressed his concerns on ?

5) Why is Ken suspended from APA for a year ?

I don't play in the APA, I play in the BCA. As a team captain, if this terrible situation unfolded at the poolhall, during playoffs, we would have contacted our LO. With the assumption that all involved are mature adults...

1) Our LO would have come to the site were he able, and/or would have suggested something similar to making up the match prior to the start of the next match.

2) As a captain, it is MY responsibility to relay that information to my teammates. If we have to "play, forfeit, or make it up tomorrow", the teams would have made a well-informed decision THAT NIGHT.

3) If, after something like that, a teammate is visibly shaken or emotionally upset, again, as the team captain, it is MY responsibility to make sure that my entire team is informed of any change of events.

4) If the LO had an email (which my LO does, and it is available to ALL players), and one of my team members expressed concerns through this venue, the LO would answer the player's email and, depending on the severity of any acccusations made (as is what seems to be the topic of this thread), either copy me in on the emails or contact me directly via phone or in person, with the player's knowledge.

5) Ken is suspended from the APA for a year... I still can't come up with a logical answer for that one. That one just doesn't make sense to me. I do have an additional question for that however, as I'm reading the latest posts from Ken. A letter is being sent out from the LO stating that Ken is suspended from play for a year. Who is suspending Ken from the APA, the LO or a higher power within the APA ?

Ken, keep playing... don't let this keep you away from the tables...

I hope that the injured player is doing better, and that he makes a full recovery.

He is sending the letter to you or to other APA players. Was it because of this thread, if it was then some APA rat tipped him off which would be the norm for the drama that goes on it.

This thread reminds me of the plot of a few of the movies that will be on this weekend.

You know the scenario... the squad is on patrol out battling the enemy and the guy that everyone likes is wounded. Because the other members of the patrol won't leave without him, the whole patrol is delayed getting back to the 1.boat 2.LZ 3.rendezvous point and the heartless commander 1.sails 2.flies 3.retreats off without them and the whole squad is left as a result. I think it's either John Wayne in one of the movies on AMC or maybe it was Clark Gable or Errol Flynn on another channel who is the officer who makes the decision. Everyone is the entire 1.crew 2.platoon 3. company hates the heartless commander, even though his actions saved the 1.boat 2.helicopter 3.convoy and everyone aboard. Either way, the guy's girl friend was out dancing with someone else anyway and tomorrow he gets a "Dear John" letter at mail call. Life goes on....
