Well, as you all can tell I'm pretty new here. I'm a college student in Alaska, but I've been playing pool since I was in about 16 or so. I'm an old guy now, so don't let the college thing fool you. lol When I was in the Army, I used to play pool quite frequently and got to where I could run a few balls on occasion. I had bought two Meucci cues (Red dot Freshmans) but they got stolen when my then girlfriend's truck was stolen.

Fast forward several years and this is where my new journey starts. =) I started playing pool again about a month or so ago and have gotten back to pretty much the level I was playing at before stopping.

I've decided to purchase a new pool cue and so I ordered a Predator Wood to Wood Sneaky Pete. I've always wanted to try the Predator shaft so now I'll have my opportunity. Also, I've decided that I would like to improve my game so that I can be a much better player. I would consider myself an "intermediate" beginner because I know my fundamentals are lacking. I've been looking at some books and videos to buy and have decided to buy the Phil Capelle's set. Has anyone any input on this?

I've also decided to visit an Instructor and take some lessons with them. The instructor I have in mind is Randy G. I've heard very good things about him and think that I could benefit from his instruction. I do have a question for him since he's a member here.

I guess that's basically it. lol Sorry for the long spiel but I just wanted to introduce myself properly. Thanks, and I really look forward to learning as much as I can from all of you.

Welcome to to the forum, David. That's impressive to get your game back that quickly, good luck with your future improvement!

=) Thanks for the warm welcome, fellas.

I think it's mainly because I'm a bit older now and more willing to actually "learn". I had a decent run of seven balls today in a full rack. lol I know that's hardly worth mentioning but it's pretty decent for me. The highest run I've had back when I was playing was five balls, but that was while playing 8 ball. I like 9 ball, but my heart is really with 8 ball.

I've decided to start playing 14.1 because I've read somewhere that it can really improve your game playing ability. Only trouble is I don't know how to play, and I'm not sure if any here in Alaska plays. I'll have to visit he pool room that's close to campus here to see if anyone there plays.

I can sink balls, but I know I really need to work on my fundamentals. I think that alone would cause a great improvement in my game. I wish there was an instructor here in Alaska, but the only one I know about isn't available or something. At least that's what her phone number says.

Oh! I also enrolled in a billiards class next semester here. I'm not sure if it's one of those "free play" classes, or if the guy will actually some instruction. I'll keep you all posted when I find out more about it.

Stickman, The Science Of Pocket Billiards by Jack Kohler. One of the best Books IMO. Private instruction is huge. Go get some and report back with your experience.
