Hello Summer...Goodbye Pool :(

Summer is going to get here sooner or later. As much as I hate to admit it, this usually means not much pool for me. Instead we have soccer games, softball games, baseball games, endless yard work, throw in a few camping trips and vacations. Let's not forget the graduation parties and the weddings. I'm always reluctant to put down my pool cue, but I'm always glad in the end because the things listed above are really the good stuff. That's a country song right???

But then there's the not so good stuff like painting and doing housing repairs. If I'm lucky maybe I'll even get to reseal the driveway....yeah that sounds like a lot of fun!!! We bought a fixer upper house that we want to turn into a rental and I'm sure that's going to really help my pool game too. What was I thinking???

I do try to stay somewhat in stroke even though I don't get to compete much during the summer. Having a table at home sure is nice during this time. Even just a few minutes here and there so that the cue doesn't feel like a foreign object come fall is a huge benefit.

For those of you that take the summers off why do you do it? Isn't it frustrating starting out cold in the fall? Or do you find the summer break to be beneficial to your game as you give yourself a chance to clear your mind and maybe reset your stroke when you come back? Or are you like me and you just try to maintain a little bit by just hitting a few balls here and there?

Personally, I think I'm ready for summer.

I definitely don't play as much in the summer; there's just too much to do. This summer will be even less as I just took up golf as well.

I have a table in my nice, cool basement so on the hot hot days of summer, it's nice to go down and hit some balls and cool off. I'm still playing in a weekly league and will practice once or twice a week (down from 5-6 times a week.)

I play much less in the summer an find it very beneficial. It gives me a chance to forget those bad shots and when I start playing again I hit the practice hard. Also when practice resumes I am able to initially just focus on mechanics and then work on problem areas after that.

You think making a thin cut shot, table length is hard?

Try casting a 1/4 oz. lure fifty feet into a one-foot circle opening in a weed bed. It usually takes me until mid-June before my casts fall where I want them to.

There's a five-pound bass out there with my name on it.

Our summers are so short in Canada, we have to get the most out of them. So many things to do, many of which are yard chores left over from the summer past.

And we had one long brutal winter last year. I decided to play scotch and 8 ball spring league this year which will be ending up shortly. Can't just go cold turkey on the pool.

Hopefully I will find a bit of extra time to throw the leg over the Harley a few more times than I did last summer.

At least I can kill two birds. Hop on the Harley and strap the cue to my back, play a little and go for a good ride before home.

I haven't been playing much pool since temperature's gotten above 20 degrees.
Gonna be getting back to tennis! Got a game scheduled for tonight.

Tis the season.

Got rid of my pool table due to moving back to America:thumbup:

Hopefully have one by Thanksgiving.

That's sort of what I've done in the past. I have found that when you are returning from a long break it is a good time to make serious changes to your game (if so desired). It seems like it's much easier to implement changes this way. It's the closest you can come to starting from scratch.

Summers off

I find the "summer break" to be rather nice...get some golfing in...and just shoot some tourneys while on road trips. Keeps the spirit of pool alive for me.

Sounds like me. I have the table down in the basement and it does stay cool, but the balls can sure get sticky.

you poor guy i'lll play a little for you an a lot for me

Sounds good. Thanks for looking out for me.

Nice. I'm the kind of guy that's just happy being on or near the water. Last time I went fishing with my kids I spent all the time screwing around with their poles. After a while you realize you aren't going to do any fishing. It was still fun.

That Harley ride sounds awesome. Perfect picture of ultimate freedom! Harley and a Cue Stick. Now that could be a reality show.
