I just got this cue, and I believe it to be a good custom cue, but I don't know the maker. It has an ebony butt sleeve. BEM forearm with ebony points and 4 veneers. It has a joss style pin. Can anyone ID it.

Hi,

Shaft quality doesn't look that great...but overall look like a nice splice cue! Probably a Joss based on the veneer combination. How does it play?

Duc.

Sorry, just answered my own question - 5/16 X 14 joint screw. Could be anybody - it's out of my realm but I think you're on the right track.

jOSS CONTACT

Does Anyone Have Dan Janes Or Bill Strouds Email, So I Could Possibly Find Out If They Built It.

you can probably get dan janes email from www.josscues.com

maybe if you look at the delrin buttcap really close where it meets the ebony, maybe you can see if there is a joss inscribed.. it may be hard to see since its so old and worn.. look really close.. it may be there..

If you do find out that it is actually a Joss cue, I would strongly caution you to leave it like it is and get the written confirmation from Dan Janes. I had an early Joss when they used to scratch the JOSS logo in block letters. The very bottom of the butt cap was cracked when I purchased it. but the logo was kept intact. I contacted Mr. Janes to find out how much he would charge to bring it back to original. His response was that he would not replace the butt cap in kind, but would only consider putting a current butt cap and logo on the cue. Ruined any chance of having a really complete early Joss, and also ruined any chance for future dealings with them as well.

I guess he just wanted me to buy a new cue! Now I only purchase Joss cues for resale, no matter how nice. Scruggs, Stroud, etc. all refused due to copywrite issues. I understand that, but it still left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

How About Joss Or Black Or Tasscarella.

The early TASC I've seen had "tangs" and , as a result , smaller weight bolts.

Don't recall ANY RB's w/pln blk collars. He probably did them at the customers request though.

It doesn't appear to have been refinished so there shoud be a hint of logo if it's a joss. I could be wrong but it just doesn't say JOSS to me.....

Adams/Helmstettler?? Based on LIMITED view of shaft quality.

ya know.. looking at the pics... i do NOT thing it is a joss.. i dont know what i was thinking.. but none of the older or 80's joss's used a insert for the pilot that large.. he always used the smaller lips on the shafts.. thats why a schon shaft or anything would fit a joss.. if you were to take those shafts and put them on any joss cue, more then likley they will not fit.. the joint screw will but the piloted part would be too large.. also.. looking at pics of the Blacks, do you think, richard black would make a cue with that large of a space between points? most of them i looked at, they are really close together or or the outside ebony is actually spliced together.. look at the pics close in Tates link.. really makes you go hmmmmmmmm....

I agree with Si. If it has a buzz ring under the wrap, Jensen, if not, Black...
