Inexpensive Asian import. Sold under many brand names. Could be Imperial....or some other like that.

Asian import, J U N K.

Ya know, just because on paper it is considered junk doesn't mean it is. I have seen several people, good players, shoot with cues they didn't even know the name of but loved the feel of it and isn't that what is supposed to matter? I had an Asian import about a year ago that I loved and so did a lot of people who shot with it, then I sold it to a pawn shop where a local chump bought it, lost it gambling to a solid AA who played with it for awhile who then sold it to another great player who loved it. So it really doesn't matter if you or anybody else thinks it's junk, it might be the best hitting cue you ever picked up also. Just my two cents, take it for what you want but don't judge a book by its cover.

I agree, easy on the Imports, and the stereotyping, "JUNK"

there were some good examples made, and dont forget, that, 'Longoni' 'Helmstetter', 'Mezz' and a number of others are all 'IMPORTS' so be careful on your statements.

As to the Asian Imports, a lot of them were very economical cues, but a large part of the problem was because they had know knowledge or were just to fast at producing the proper shafts, so they used a lot of ramin wood and other softer woods, that could be kiln dried and processed quickly so the turn around times could be reduced considerably. If they have made the butt sections and then sub-contracted the shafts, a lot of the cues would have been a lot better in overall quality, they made a lot of very nice, short-splice cues with uniform points and nice veneers, and lots of good wood materials.

If they would have done this and put the pins in the butt section and spent about, $3.00 per cue more, they could have put out some nice quality completed cues.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth, everytime someone says 'asian junk'

Then I see an asian 'Titlist' or 'Hoppe' knock off and they go on the e-bay site and sell for, $176.90, or, crazy numbers like that, and then at the same time you wil see one sell for, $6.99 with free shipping, Go Figure!!!

For the record, I said inexpensive.

As for the comment that followed, I am holding my tongue for the moment.

Bravo! Well stated.

pushout's comment was about this specific cue, and was 100% correct,
on paper, on air, onward.

How do you know? Have you shot with this cue? Do you know how it hits? From what I can see from the pictures it looks pretty clean, not many marks or dings and who knows it might be straight as an arrow, then if it shoots well I guess just because its not a Joss West its junk huh?

It was rude. Forget correct.

We have seen people come on here and ask about such cues and it turns out it was left to them by their father or grandfather or something.

So, no...it wasn't 100% correct. It was incorrect as far as social behavior and 100% incorrect factually as well.

Heck, it was even posted in ALL CAPS FOR EMPHASIS.

In the cue makers forum some time ago there was one seeking repair on such a cue that was in fact inherited. The cue makers were in general quite gracious about it. I thought that set a great example. Why not here?

What kind of shoes do you wear? What do you drive? What brand appliances do you own? Clothes? Paint on your walls? Tools you use? Please let me know so I can inform you what kind of JUNK YOU HAVE.

This is me not holding my tongue.......

Maybe people shouldn't ask about cues here anymore? Unless of course they are cleared by a committee first to see if they are worthy. Of course, another committee would need to pre-approve it for the committee lest they be displeased by laying eyes on a cue not worthy.

I've hit a bunch of these and they all hit like just what they are. I saw many of these before I even set foot in a commercial billiard room. Sure, some people can and will play with crap cues just because that's all they have but as soon as they can afford something better they switch. How can I tell? From the joint, for starters.

I usually don't bother with posts asking about inherited cues . Most people who post stuff about cues like this are only interested in how much money they can make off it. Some, like the op, have never seen anything like this before and are curious.
The fact is that most cues like this are worthless.
A year or so ago, my wife and I went to a yard sale. Guy had a cue he wanted $100.00 for. It was a K-Mart special, $9.99. Would you let some unsuspecting buyer spend $100.00 for something like that?? I wouldn't.

And FWIW, the op, guycrunch, is a knowledgeable collector and an all around good guy.

As he stated, he was simply trying to do a favor for a friend and was hoping az members could pinpoint exactly what cue his buddy acquired.

Best,
Brian kc
