Help Me Hal Houle

So after extensive reading on the threads about Hal's system i decided to do a little research.

I HAVE been having some difficulties in my aiming as of late. I read a post somewhere about how the system works on 3 angles of 15, 30, 45.

Im not really good at judging angles but i gave it a shot. i used the CB left edge to hit the left quarter of the OB on a 15 degree. and so on for the other two angles

After the first hour i was like this is INTERESTING i was shooting balls in the pocket without really looking, but then after the next FOUR hours all i found was frustration.

Im not sure if i was aiming wrong. Not seeing the quarters properly or what but i just found myself rattling shot after shot and some shots just flat out missing. Most of these shots were either into a blind pocket or shots that the OB was in the middle of the table.

Im sure alot of it had to do with the fact that i was never sure if i was on a 15,30,45 degree angle.

NOW i know there's been alot of contraversy and argument on this issue. Please this thread is for those that use this system to shed some light on the subject. I like to give everything a chance so please allow those who believe in HH's system to speak up.

Also Hal if you're out there im trying to reach out to you too!

Me too

Hal,

I'd really like to talk to you as well. Please, if you read this tread send me a pm so i can get you my phone number.

thanks,

Craig

after many prayers

I can't find the stroke I used to have .Maybe Hal can help me out
I did talk to a lady on here one time from florida that knew Hal and she
was going to get me his number ....I guess I got lost in the shuffle
I would be willing to drive up or pay for the phone time .
Any help is greatly appreciated Matt

And if I read his post correct, Second Fiddle Fred (Agnir) is no longer playing second fiddle, thanks to Hal Houle. :)

Absolutely. I use a couple of Hal's system pretty instinctively at this point, but there are still a couple of shots that I have zero instinct for, so I go to a stick aiming system that I "developed" based on everything I've listened to from Hal. And after listening to him, it certainly is part of the family of systems he teaches, so even though I developed it independently of our discussions, I still give him all the credit.

Again, I have no instinct for these specfic shots, its seems all wrong, but I just go with the stick aiming system and that's that. And the balls seem to like going in the hole, so I just keep doing it.

It's back-cuts in general, but specifically, the close range back-cuts. I just cant see the line, and without using a system, I'm pretty lost on this shot.

I'm sure many of you guys have no problem with this shot. Good for you. For those that do have a problem with this or similar, systems are there to help.

Would you describe the details of how you use your system to pocket this particular ball?
Thanks,

That shot is basically a hanger these days.

I developed a system that is stick dependent for these kinds of shots, that is, it works like a charm with one stick, but not necessarily another. However, one of the sticks/shafts it works well with with is the OB-1, another is a Schmelke shaft with the 12 mm tip.

Here's what I've found out, and how I shoot the shot. I'm sure you can do it too.

Stare at the object ball and find the laser point contact point on it that's directly opposite the direction you want the ball to go. Fix that point and don't let it out of your sight. Walk over behind the cue ball, and match the contact point of the OB with the CB. Now, make a bridge where the length of the bridge is equal to the distance from the OB contact point to the CB contact point. Pivot the shaft just a little, downward, to give a touch of low outside english. Stroke the shot very gently, basically pocket speed, just enough to get the OB into the pocket, perhaps a bit more. You may find this works like a charm. If you put a little more force into the shot, you'll throw the OB, so if you need to do that, aim a little fuller. Experiment with this at different distances from the CB to the OB. You may find some adjustments are necessary for different cloth speeds, but probably on these very close shots, swerve on the cloth won't be a major factor.

Sure. I see the contact point on the object ball. Then, I point my stick through the the left side of the cueball directly at that contact point on the object ball. Then I pivot my stick about my bridge (which is about 10-12" at this point) to the center of the cueball.

Now, understanding the varying degrees of cut, it's clear to me that the most heinous cut, I'd start far to the left of the cueball for maximum pivot, while a dead straight shot, I'd start at the center of the cueball for minimum/zero pivot. That should make sense, right?

So, where do I start and how many starting points are there? I gather that if I choose three start points to coincide with thin, medium, and thick cuts, and do my pivot thing, that takes care of the vast majority of these cuts without even trying.

To refine it, I can add that instead of looking at the "theoretical" contact point of the object ball, I can use the edge of the object ball, since for this shot, the two points are pretty damned close. I can further refine to use the center of the object ball as another aimpoint coupled with my three points on the cueball. I'd guess this would cover nearly every way that this ball can go in the hole. And by using centers/edges of the object ball, and a few cueball aim points, this starts looking very Houlian. And notice I still haven't said squat about quarter balls and such.

Before people jump and say this and that, please remember that my make percentage on this shot if I don't use a system is pretty dismal because I just don't feel or see the shot well enough. I never have. So, this is the system I use, and it obviously has paid dividends. Excuse the pun.

The last time I showed this system on a table, the person I was showing kept on saying that this couldn't possibly work, and yet he was pocketing the balls pretty well with it. Continued hypnosis and voodooo, I know.

since this has something to do with the Hal Houle aiming system, I will say if you use what he teaches or at least from what ive ran across his system still applies to that shot, to me its common sense that throw will effect that shot so you compensate with outside english to the pocket, to negate the throw effect.

I'm not sure which post you're answering, but the system I described had very little to do with throw.

Hal's system(s) have worked for me but I think he's angry w/me since I admitted I don't use them exclusively but instead use them in conjunction w/other methods of aiming. Seems like virtually every shot I shoot contains at least 3 types of aiming methods in conjunction w/each other.

Congratulations on the State Championship Fred.

I do not use 15 30 45, never have, never will. I have my own aiming system.

I thought that your system was a 3 angle system, but I refined it to my current 3 angel system. I shoot my shot and pray to three angels that it goes in.....

( this is also similar to my current poker system ) :)

I dont care what aiming system your using some aspects or LAWS of the game applies. BHE is a tiny way of cheating these laws but in itself will not make you a master of the game. I feel the same about Hal's aiming system, having tried it myself, if you dont have a decent understanding of the game, its not really going to work. I really think Hal's aiming sysem teaches head alighnment more than anything. Important? you better believe it, without proper head alighnment NO AIMING system is going to work. I dont use Hal's system myself, But I do use something simular, If I was just beggining the game, and know what I do now, Id use hal's system exclusive. Id only use his sytem if I had the oportunity to understand the system from Hal Himself, either in person or maybe a DVD, seeing this system in action is the only way to really understand it fully, for myself anyhow.
