Help - New shaft threads too tight...

My son gambling at V.F.
I just picked up a Tiger Pro-X shaft with 3/8-10 threads (steel), but it will not thread all the way down because it gets way too tight. My buddy that I got it from had no issues with it threading onto his cue and the only difference is that his 3/8-10 pin is made from G-10. I can even take the original shaft that came with his cue and thread it on my cue, but for some reason the Tiger will not.

Any suggestions?
 
My wife bought a Jerry Olivier cue and it's a 3/8 x 10 in wood....Really tight...Jerry said a small amount of Vaseline on top 2 threads will do...I did that and it works normal now...Also said candle wax will work but Vaseline did fine.....
There must be other ways also I'm sure your'll get more suggestions...
 
I have had similar issues with aftermarket LD shafts with 3/8x10 pins. I usually put a little wax on a cotton cloth and then apply it to the pin. It will help to lubricate it. It will still go on tight, just do this a couple times and as the wax coats the female threads, it will eventually seat fully, and then will not be as difficult in the future.

All 3/8-10 are not the same. It's about as simple as that. I'm guessing your minor diameter is bigger.

The hole sounds shallow even if it fits in his buddy's cue with a 3/8x10 pin that is the same except for the material? I know you are a well regarded cue maker, maybe you overlooked that? I can't see how that could be the case.

If the pin on the "buddys" cue is shorter than the pin on the shafts purchasers cue, then the hole in the Tiger shaft could be too shallow....Also could be a 3/8 modified pin... Standard 3/8-10 will go on modified, but not vise versa.....

How could the pin on the buddy's cue be shorter when he said "the only difference" was the material? Either that isn't true, and his buddy's pin IS shorter, or OP's has a different minor dimension than the female part and he can either 1) use the wax method and make it work, or 2) send shaft out for another boring. If it was me and it was just an aftermarket LD shaft I could get anywhere, then I'd just try the wax. In fact, I have done it before and it works fine. Graphite would work too, but it's messier.

And some folks look at a standard 3/8-10 and a modified and think they are the same....... I'm just pointing out the possibilities..... The wax may work...
 
Well, after looking up all kinds of information and referring to a guy I shoot with that does cue repair, it seems like I have a 3/8-10 Modified pin. I had no clue one existed. Unfortunately, the guy that made my cue passed away and I had no background information on my stick.

I just want to thank everyone that commented (some of you mentioned the modified pin) because it was all very helpful, as well as, very nice to see people reach out to help. :)

Well... he said " the only difference is," yet it doesn't fit one of the pins. Therefore, there is a difference that he doesn't realize . It's perfectly acceptable to put out potential differences.

Again, if there are no other differences, it would actually fit, but it doesn't fit. There's a logical conclusion there.

Clearly, there was another difference. There are many different ways cuemakers and machinists in general can execute a 3/8-10, and not just modified 3/8-10 vs "standard" 3/8-10.

These migh include:

Acme thread
Piloted nose
Shouldered
And various tolerancing
