Help Sponsor the SBE 14.1 Challenge!

Thanks so much for your help.

we would rather a money order to be sent to Charles, his address is in the first post.

if we used PayPal we would all be helping to sponsor them, cause they would get a cut of all of our hard earned donations.

Thanks Everyone for all your support !
Steve

Here is the first post to make it easier for you and everyone who is sending there contributions.

Steve

Most of you have seen this great event coming up in mid March being organized here on the forum. Steve and Charlie are working hard putting this event together and it will be a huge boost to 14.1.

The cost of the event is large with having to pay for approx. 3 or 4 vendor spaces and getting 2 tables there for the event. So far Bob Jewett has very generously offered to cover $1,000 of the expenses and Diamond Pool Tables has generously offered to sponsor the event as well providing the 2 tables. But these guys will still be stuck about $2,000 out of pocket, so we as a group need to do something to help these guys out and make sure the event comes off and runs well. I suggested to them that they charge $25 a for a 5 inning try at the event instead of $20 and put the extra $5 toward expenses as well, between these pledges and the little table/booth $5 fee I think they can cover the expenses.

I am going to have a large banner made giving credit to all that helped by sponsoring the event, the banner will hang at the event.. At the top in large letters will be Bob Jewett and Diamond as major sponsors. I am asking the forum members here to chip in and pledge $25 to the event expenses to these guys and have your name or business up on the banner as well. The $25 pledges will be in smaller letters than the 2 major sponsors, and size will be according to how many we wind up with in the end to fit on the banner. Please think about it, even if you aren't attending the SBE, lets keep this great game alive and well!

Post in the thread if you would like to pledge $25 (or more) and I will periodically update a list in this first post. Pledges will need to be sent to Steve and Charlie before the first week in March to Charlie's address below.

Charles Eames
42 Deep Lane
Wantagh, NY 11793

Now that being said these checks will not be cashed or deposited until we know for certain that this event is going off. If not they will simply be sent back to the original senders.

Thank you!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that Paypal only takes a cut if the money is classified for the purchase of goods or services. If it is classified as a gift or money owed, then 100% goes to the recipient.

Paypal would make it much easier. As for doing a money order for a donation - no way.

Sorry for my misunderstanding of paypal. I have never used paypal for anything other than eBay and wiring money to someone .

I will look into it.

Thanks

Hey Guys just to clear things up,

Checks have been the best way to go thus far. I have received quite a few so far and I am currently in talks with a large cue manufacturer to help sponsor the event as well.

I want to thank everyone again for their involvement and support. I am hoping we can arrange an az 14.1 dinner at one of the restaraunts around the area or at least get some pizzas delivered after hours or something and we can all sit back and relax and talk for a little while.

Thanks again.

Charlie

I understand where you are coming from Sean I really do but in all honesty I really didnt need the attack. I have a lot on my plate with this event and am busting my ass to make sure it goes off without a hitch so the last thing I need is him being a drama queen on how difficult it is to send a check.

Also the WTF as in what the F*&CK I really didnt need either and in truth I probably would have said a lot worse if it was to his face so Im glad it wasnt.

Believe my my first response was a lot worse which I edited to scale down.

I'm really not trying to be a bad guy here but in all honesty if this is the way im going to be talked to for trying to do something to further our sport and be attacked for asking someone to send a check to make my job a little easier than I get defensive.

Sean I have no issue with you whatsoever but this guy was way out of line. Yes there was sarcasm but I would rather be sarcastic than curse at the guy and call him names etc.

Online bank checking web portal offers bill payment via postal mail

[...deletia...]

I understand your position, Charlie, I do -- I once ran several leagues and tournaments, with lots of "value added" that I personally am known for, and the last thing I wanted was drama from what I perceived to be "drama queens," especially on a recurring weekly basis (as opposed to a one-shot deal like we have here).

As the "idea guy" that I'm known for in my day job, how about this idea? While mulling over how in the h*ll I'm going to make it to a post office in my busy day to buy a stamp to put on the envelope I'd prepared for you, I remembered that my bank does online bill payment via check. In other words, I can do the check online, fill in the recipient postal address, and my bank will mail you the check from their end. I know that Citibank, Chase, Wachovia, TD Bank, Bank of NY, Bank of America, and other large banking institutions offer this as a standard service in their online banking web portals.

In fact, I think I'm just going to void the check I'd already written you, and do this online method. It won't change a thing for you -- you'll still receive a paper check in the postal mail -- but it makes it easier (and much quicker!) for me.

I hope as others read this, they'll realize they have the same online banking "check via web portal" ability and can get the donations in quicker.

What think ye?

I have to agree with you completely and in all seriousness thank you for providing people with a simple easy solution.

I was out of control. I"d been up a long time and was just burnt out and I just lost it. I flew off the handle and I'm ashamed of my outburst. I"m sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings. I deeply regret showing my assholiness in public and I apologize for any hurt I've caused. Jim.

Edit: I don't know what check via check portal is??

Jim, your a standup guy, thank you. I think Charlie was a little tired as well, we can move on from here in a positive manner.

Online checks are done in your online banking account with your local bank if you bank that way.

I didn't remember to get a check from Lavin of Red Shoes last night, but I'll just send the check in today. Please don't use the money for dinners or pizza.;)
