help with old Schmelke

one of the guys on my league team whipped out this old Schmelke cue the other day with a joint i had never seen before (not overly surprising) i asked him to let me take some pics to see if anyone here could help identify the age and any other details or potential value of this cue...

It's not worth much, maybe 100-bucks

My first 'real' cue was a purple Schmelke with a nylon wrap and that joint. The joint eventually shifted. The parts rolled true apart, but not together. I paid $80 for it in 1990. It had no inlays. I doubt that cue is worth $100. I wouldn't pay that.

I believe that is a old Tru-stroke, and yes that ghastly joint is common.

It has also proved itself over many decades to be a durable joint. Several of my Schmelke cues with that joint break like a freight train. By the looks of the finish on that bad boy it has seen a few breaks in it's day.

I would guess that it could be from the mid 80's.

I am pretty familiar with Schmelke cues and I believe that the one you have pictured is a model #B6 that was made from 1987 - 1991. I have been using a 1970 Schmelke for about 25 years now and it plays very well. It was handed down to me from my father who originally purchased it in 1970. They are known for the joint coming loose on the shaft but that can be repaired. I really don't think that it is worth much but it is not a bad cue.

To deal with these dumbsh*ts scramblin' and clearing out the grocery shelves over some wind & water, yes, I am drinking sumpin' a little stronger.

I have a couple

The one on the right I bought in 1974 in Colorado Springs at Ranch Billiards ($50). The one on the left was given to me in the early 80's. They play nice. I bought another one 2 years ago($150) and it plays pretty nice too. I had the 2 in the pics re-finished a coulple years ago by Schmelke, also had 2 shafts made. So I have 2 original shafts and 2 I had made. They still make a great value for the $$.
