Good stuff, from one who knows!

Why the secrecy in the name of this world champion? As far as sponsorship there alot of billiard products you can try. The main problem is its usually short lived since the player really doesnt ad any value or profit to the company. So in turn becomes a donation of good will and a money pit for the company. The best chance you have is with a new product, they are usually looking for the most exposure they can get. So will take the initial lost as a investment toward getting the product known.
Step 1: Identify potential sponsors
Step 2: Contact potential sponsors to determine whether or not there is interest
Step 3: Submit a professionally written proposal which includes the following:
- Who you are
- What you've done
- Why the company is a good match
- How your sponsorship will benefit the sponsor
- A concrete discussion of how the sponsorship will be ROI positive for the sponsor
Step 4: Do not take rejection of your proposal personally
Step 5: Repeat Steps 1 to 4 until you find success
This is not meant to be obnoxious or snarky in any way. This is simply the process. If you can't show a potential sponsor how the relationship will be profitable, there isn't much reason to reach out to any company. As for potential targets, I'd probably start with the BCA member list and go from there.

Please note that this is not a request for a sponsorship proposal, as PoolDawg is not looking to sponsor players at this time.
Seyberts is not in a position to offer monetary sponsorship. They already sponsor several players with product. If you're looking for monetary sponsorship, try going to the Chinese table manufacturers...especially since you're already in Asia. BTW...your "friend" should be identified. If he really is a 'former world champion' we already will know who he is...so why the secrecy?

thank you for the valuable comment.
please don't be offended that i dont tell his name in public. i would tell you his name through pm though.
i don't want this matter become serious public exposure.
i don't want is something like "former world champ cant get sponsor" show up in the news.
again i apologize.
thanks:thumbup:
chrislie.... If you tell one person privately, the world will know. The pool playing field, not only in the USA, but everywhere, is littered with "former world champions" who can't get sponsors. I could name you several dozen without even trying. If there's anyone who gave you the straight scoop it is Pool Dawg. Good luck in your quest...but like I said, your best options are in Asia.

I used to live in Japan, and if your friend is world class talent, it seems to me that Japan has always been very 'friendly' to ANY asian players that are good enough to compete on the world level. Try Adam, Mezz, KeithAndy, USA Sports, ER-Sports (owned by Koreans), COSMO Japan, Alpha Billiards International
I know that Mezz and Adam always try their best to get world class players to play their cues, so even if he's not well known in Japan, try to get him some exposure in Japan by playing in the Japan Open, or the Tokyo Open. Even just playing small tournaments in and around the Tokyo area will get some peoples attention.

Don't know anything about the Asian scene, so this may be one of my usually useless postings.
Can he make money in other ways?
In the UK, before the big money, champion snooker players would give exhibitions as their major source of income.
Winning a championship gave them credibility and recognition by the public.
Requires talents beyond playing - telling jokes, interacting with the crowd.
Alex Pagulayan is a natural - he does this stuff while he plays.
Several European players do good work in the commentary booth.
Learning how to use the telestrator, if that is the correct word for the software used to draw predictions of how a shot should be played, is helpful.
The best in the business is Dennis Taylor on BBC snooker broadcasts.
I have seen your pm and responded. Per your wishes I will not name the name, however like Itold you keeping it secret seems a little backward. You want people on here to know who knows what may come of it.all comments from my AZ friend is appreciated.![]()
its true that alex is naturally talented. it is a +1 if a pool player can play well while telling jokes.
thank you for the advice.

Also there is no shame in your player activly seeking sponsorships and getting rejected. He will get rejected for one reason or another the reasons don't matter right now. Lack of marketing $$, Hes not American (Some American sponsors would like to put the $$ into a US player and have more chances to meet personally and attend events etc) There are plentyof reasons. and no shame in not getting the $$ I know plenty of champions that can't get sponsorship $$ here in the USA. Just hard times man I'm afraid. and the real crusher maybe for you looking on here for sponsorships as a new guy to the biz. The truth is this.
WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER! This is not saying that you will not be successful but giving you a reality check. For example, I had dinner last month with Rory Mueller, I speak with Mark Griffin a couple times a week. If the sponsorship dollars were there I would have a little taste of it for some of the players I work with. I know that Scott knowseveryone too andI am sure would not turn down sponsorship either. Again, this is not me being an ass its just me letting you know what you are up against here and with the current times. I really do wish you the best with your friend and hope that things go well for you. Everyone just about on here is willing to give you advice but remember this is how some people on here make a living and they are not just doing it as a part time thing and doing a friend a favor so some things will be guarded from you probably.

The best way is for your friend to become a current champion or that places high in big tournaments.
Sponsorship is all about exposure and keeping the persons name in the media.
If he was a former world champion that still has major talent, why don't you come out with "Former world champion [name of person] needs sponsorship" and not like you put it "former world champion can't get sponsorship"???
Maybe have him, or her, win a few events that are close to home to start getting press and post positive results on AZ Billiards forums. If he or she is indeed great and can actually compete with current world champions, then you got a good shot.
Bring him or her to Manila and start gambling with some of the great players. Then you can ask for sponsorship. Maybe all you need is a good backer to play money games. Are you looking for money?? What is it?
Why is the person a former world champion? I think this is all BS or just plain ignorance. Sorry to say that.

Mark...Good post. There have been many positive posts in this thread...all given with the idea of trying to help. While you're right...I probably wouldn't turn down some extra sponsorship (I have some now), like you, I am proactive, and MAKE things happen because I work hard at it. Through efforts like yours, more players have had the chance to meet, play with, and learn from many top American players, that would not have had that opportunity if you didn't bring it to them. Even though I make my living from it, I don't give "guarded" responses. I am happy to share with anyone the secret...well it's really not a secret...it's just hard work and persistence, and a little bit of luck! See you the next time our paths cross!

hi jeff,
the man i mention is ricky yang from indonesia
he is still number 1 player in indonesia. still winning major event in south east asia.
you are right jeff. i am helping him to find monetary sponsor. it would be great if a company in billiard industry is able to sponsor him.
although you are also right about gambling. i prefer not to help him through gambling.
thanks for your comment
Chrislie-
Can Ricky travel to US?
Does he have a passport and other papers that are required to travel to US?
Will he need a translator while in the US?
Just thinking.
