Once a rarely seen item, now they are everywhere. Someone must know something. Who? When? Where?
Yep. Most always do. Pulled up every FS thread that included JPs. AZ's search function is often frustrating.I came across a thread while searching for something else a few days ago. I didn't read it. Did you try a search?
Too easy.I always kept mine in a ziploc bag. Oh, you mean cue joints. My bad.![]()

Joint protectors is a huge waste of time for the modern pool player in 2025.
Joint protectors is a huge waste of time for the modern pool player in 2025. I use to have them on every cue and shaft in my case and found that it took a long ass time for me to set everything up. I recently took them all off.
I went from pulling the butts and shafts out, unscrew the protectors, put down the butt/shaft just to do it 3 more times. Then connect the two.Are they?
Faster than what. To each his own. The lid on my case was not secure. As I was putting the case in the car 3 cues/shafts came out and hit the ground. The JP’s protected the merchandise. Nobody has the like them but they are functional. Damage a cue joint and come back to this thread.I went from pulling the butts and shafts out, unscrew the protectors, put down the butt/shaft just to do it 3 more times. Then connect the two.
Without it, I pull the shaft out and screw it on the butt while in my case and pulling them. A lot faster.
What was your query?Who made the first joint protectors?
Wondering who made the first joint protectors and when did this became popular?forums.azbilliards.com
First search result. Not much there. Same jokes.
AZB forum is indexed by Google, just use Google.
Well you need them.Faster than what. To each his own. The lid on my case was not secure. As I was putting the case in the car 3 cues/shafts came out and hit the ground. The JP’s protected the merchandise. Nobody has the like them but they are functional. Damage a cue joint and come back to this thread.
That’s cool. Your cues your case your business. Me? I like to stall .. take all day. Make my opponent itchy. Get their blood pressure up, etc.Well you need them.
I didn't think of that because I carry a JB case and I assume that's what everyone is carrying now. Like back in the days when everyone had a Giuseppe.
Its just faster for me to setup and I guess I don't need them because of my case.
That really sucks. You should have tracked her down and bit her tits. I have an M04. It warped slightly. I had the wrap changed and shaft reduced but I love it. $100 around 1979No joint protectors on my 1975 Meucci MO-3 or the cue before that. Old girlfriend ran off and kept that,
I Googled "history of joint protectors" with no quotes. What was your query?
"AZB forum is indexed by Google, just use Google." This is really excellent advice. I got your same result and will "never" use AZB's Search again.
Would like to know more. Would hope someone here knows. Seems there is a distinct shortage of old "industry" folks on AZB. I have always wondered where the old Brunswick and AES employees hang out.
