History of the X-breaker?

X-Jumper

I bought an X-Jumper for a friend, and it was the best jump cue that I had ever tried. The control with it was amazing for even close jumps. Oh, and Richard sent me an X-Breaker shirt along with the jump cue for free. He was really a nice guy, and approached everything with a scientific type attitude.

I remember the good old days with the competition Richard ran for naming the his Charly Bryant version. X347 as I recall.....

I know I even experimented using my X-jumper ash shaft on my X-breaker to break with. Kind of wish I hadn't sold them now...... but then I digress.....

I seem to recall 2-3 years ago when I was fairly new here someone starting a thread introducing a new jump cue where they had a "Name the Cue" contest. IIRC the OP ended up naming it something real close to X-Breaker and numerous AZr's called him out for using that name.

Anyone remember something about that?

To the best of my knowledge the 1st & 2nd generation Xbreaker's where all made in Richards shop, and where the best ones. There where problems with the ring work not lining up the Xbreaker logo, and the metal ring work would SOMETIMES pop out.But those where the only problems that I ever heard of.

The 1st & 2nd generation cues HIT a TON! I would recommend one any day even if it's one that has those problems! The cue will still hit like a sledge hammer,it's just aesthetics.
The Samssara version that I had a chance to hit wasn't even close to my Xbreaker as far as hit goes!As for the finish it's top notch.

Some people say it's just the tip that made the Xbreaker great,I like the G10 tip,but it's not just the tip!I just replaced the the G10 tip with a layered B/Jump tip I got for free, though slightly softer in hit,it still kills a rack, yesterday I had more than 1 five ball breaks!!!!

If you can get an Xbreaker 1st or 2nd generation I would recommend trying one. There not magic it may not be a good B/J cue for your style of break or jump, but you wont know till you try one.

The good ones are very hard to find and there where a lot of cheap copies out there so make sure it's a real one.Richard only used a logo on the ring work in the 2nd generation, and the logo would not line up correctly, the shaft would be numbered on the joint face,if it does not have those 2 things then it may be a Samssara or a copy.

I've never hit an Omen break/jump cue but I play with an Omen.I plan on ordering an Omen b/j cue to match my player, and have heard they also hit a ton!His quality of cue for the money can not be beat.
Good luck with your search

I originally purchased a 2nd gen X breaker. I liked it, but the butt and handle were not assembled properly. Thankfully my timing was perfect. Richard sent me one of the Gen 3 models made by Samsara. He picked out a particularly figured one that is beautiful!! This cue was superior to the Gen 2 in every way. Built more solid, better looking, hit better. The Gen 2 felt like it was going to break it self sometimes. The Gen 3 is awesome.

I'm curious...does anyone know what the original X-Breaker tip material was, and if it is available somewhere? Curious...

There is no "they". It was all Richard.

It's sad and shameful that he would smokescreen his behavior by pointing to vague health concerns which were never confirmed. To the contrary, he was spotted on numerous occasions by locals during and after, and some people knew his new hangouts. Why did you think he had moved?

Richard even posted on AZ (perhaps his last post) that he would not be refunding anyone nor returning any equipment. Then, for months after the fact "someone" with Richard's exact writing style and using Richard's eBay account sold off X-Breaker related parts and equipment. Shocker :p

Richard had also changed the name of his eBay account numerous times to try to hide it. Fortunately, eBay lets you check the history of an account, or at least it did at the time.

There were actually numerous laughable and questionable BS behaviors on his part happening on numerous occasions. Not everyone knew about it. Of course the vendors he partnered with know some, as do us locals.

By the way, X-Breaker is a fantastic cue. I've owned more than one and would gladly use one again. I'm commenting purely on what you wrote, because people should know there was nothing innocent nor unfortunate about the way things unfolded at the end.

I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how I missed everything you stated took place and the related posts...because I couldn't remember a one. Then it occurred to me....I was offline for a really long time when my computer crashed and burned several years ago now. Must've been when all this came out! Thanks so much for bringing me up to speed!! :o

Richard was a very smart guy. He buried some genius on here in a math argument. His sticks were excellent-the best around at the time imo

I was a good friend of his-even helped him with some of the English/verbiage on his website. There were some issues with payment to one of his suppliers that became known and when i asked him about it- He gave evasive answers that didnt fly right with me. I have to say he never outright lied to me-just danced around the issues. He got mad at me that i wouldnt support him unconditionally on his issues and our friendship ended. He is still on Facebook unless the account is an imposter.

I think there were some counterfeit X's around as my buddy got hold of one pretty cheap and the tip wore out in less than 2 yrs.

Totally agree with this!

Let's agree to disagree, glad you like yours. I have the Samsara X347 that Hillbilly was timed at 34.7 mph, I tried gen 1,2 and 3, and imo, as I said, to me, this one gives the first two the 7, no contest.

I test hit the 1st generation at 2005 US Open for about 20 minutes & I really liked it. I own the 3rd generation X347 & it breaks fine, but I do not think it breaks as well as the one I tested many years ago, but it jumps better. It is one of the better jumpers of all the b/j cues I have tried over the years.

The weird thing about the X347 is that Richard decided to do some weird thing w/the tip (not sure why), like cut some channels in it. It was OK for breaking if you hit center ball, but it sucked for jumping if you wanted to leave center ball. I sanded it down to get rid of the ridges and it was fine, but the tip got a little thinner and the ferrule developed a hairline crack that never went all the way down or effected performance. Richard was going to send me another shaft but he got sick, or went AWOL, or whatever, so I never did get the replacement shaft. It still jumps awesome and breaks well too.

If the original poster is looking for just a break cue, I think there are better ones out there than the X breaker, but if he is looking for a really good j/b, my overall opinion is the X breaker (3rd gen or older one) is a really good choice.

12,
I don't know how many times it can be said. Richard, nor His wife or his child was sick. The only thing sick is the way he treated his suppliers and customers. Take it from all the guys who live here.

I for one am happy that he is still alive. A bad case of Dead or Canadian.... except he only lived in Canada.

I am saddened though that things turned out bad because I only had positive experiences with Richard......

You don't have to repeat yourself, just read a little more carefully. I read your previous post so not knowing the truth I wrote: "but he got sick, or went AWOL, or whatever" leaving the truth up in the air.

Sorry buddy....I misread. The whole Richard things makes me see red.

Lisa .. not all pertinent information is from or on AZ (or on the internet). Shinobi knows some stuff 'cause he's from same town as Richard and they were both in cue scene.

He was a douchebag. I won his Charlie Bryant cue contest and he screwed me out of the prize. Then he gave the cue I won to another douchebag that turned around and sold it shortly after.
If you want a decent j/b buy a players for 80 bucks. Will do the job just fine. If you want to get fancy have a g10 tip put on it. But bear in mind that g10 fiberglass is harder than phenolic balls and can damage them.

Are you sure about that? I thought that Richard was claiming that it specifically was NOT G10. In fact, I thought I remember his promo ads showing a chart of different materials and their hardness, and the "super secret X Breaker material" was *harder* than G10. That could of course be marketing talk.
