This sounds interesting... You can be sure of Allen's production.

I like it!!

Great idea for the 25 people @ $200 each = the $5000 buy-in for whoever wins the tournament.

God I hope this works out as planned!!

I hope this is a resounding success and it becomes a regular thing. If Hopkins can pull this off, it can be leveraged into/off of the SBE and could be a huge gain for the SBE.

Based on what I have read so far at the website, the proposed tournament qualifiers are very reasonable and "do-able".

Here is the link: http://www.milliondollar9ball.com/qualifiers.html

I guess that if more pool rooms take an interest, this Million Dollar Tournament could be a great success, not only for Allen but for the "Pool World" as a whole.

I wonder if many will buy in for $5000 and bi-pass the qualifiers? Johnnyt

"The first place prize is actually valued at $5200, since there is a $200 administrative fee added to all qualifiers to be sent to Allen Hopkins Productions. Buying in directly for $5000 allows players to save this extra $200. "

I do hope this goes as planned. If successful this could be the kick-off of bringing pool into the lime light of the public in general which will generate many more players than we now have. Good luck to Allen.

sounds good..... only trouble is half of the great players will not be allowed to enter this due there governing bodies ....what a joke....

Just curious what you are basing that statement on.

Did I miss some press releases?

As far as I know, none of the governing bodies have expressed opposition until now, unless it has been kept internal between members only.

What governing bodies?

This is Allen Hopkins Jr, I just saw the above post about governing bodies not allowing players to play in our event, the $1,000,000 9-Ball Shootout...

So, to set it straight... We have not had one single player say they cannot come due a "governing body", and trust me, my dad knows a lot of great players...

If you can back up that claim, please let me know... Otherwise, please do not start controversy without knowing the facts. This is going to be a great tournament for the players, lets try to keep it that way.

If anybody has any questions, please post them here and I will try to help... I just started visiting these forums, so please bear with me...

Thanks!

Allen Hopkins Jr.

The Million Dollar event clashes with the European Championships in August and that in itself might adversely affect some potential entries from there, irrespective of whether or not there will be any dissuasion practices followed by the EPBF.

The EPBF have been a little uncooperative with some of their members as regards allowing them to exercise personal choice in whether to paticipate in a tournament currently being held right now in Spain in preference to an officially recognised WPA organised event happening simultaneously thousands of miles away in Qatar. Any European player nominated for one of the EPBF allocated slots in the Qatar event will not be given approval by EPBF to play in Spain if he declines to travel and play in Qatar.

I am not saying that any comparable problem will arise as regards your event's clash with The European Championships in August nor courting controversy, just giving you some info in case you weren't already aware of this clash.

There doesn't seem to have so far been any sizeable effort or enthusiasm to organise 'qualifiers' in Europe for your event and the above may possibly be part of the reason why.

Good luck with the event.

1,000,000 tournament dates?

When is the main event to be held? Is it winner take all?

If you look at the date, the last post before yours was in 2008. This took place, and was a few zeros shy of $1,000,000. I think Corey won it?

Would 1000 players put up a thousand dollars to win one prize of $1000000? Assume expenses for equipment and refs is zero.

Maybe 100 players putting up $10,000 each? Something like WSOP...that would definitely be a cash cow in video/dvd sales, clothing, and tickets. Unfortunately I don't think there are many pool players who would scrap up $10k to play a tournament.

i like the idea of a tournament with a bigger buy in say several thousand say 4k or something like that with a good chunk of added money. most pros couldnt afford it but think it would be a great thing to have qualifiers of different money levels say 250 500 750 1000 and top so many spots for 4k a piece are awarded seats and the rest in increments of cash to help out toward a seat and if enough not reached by tourney then get cash or moves on to next or soemthing. i think somethign like this would be awesome
