Man thank you! I saw this video years ago and kept trying to find it again. Our own Helfert on the mic.
Wouldn't try to 'copy' anyone's stroke but Sigel did a lot of things very well. Hopkins did his own thing for sure and it worked for him. So short a punch that it was kinda hard to go wrong under pressure. He was a great cash player. But would you copy Allen Hopkins stroke?![]()

This was a forerunner to Accu-Stats.Anyone know where this recording is from? Does not look like a normal AccuStats camera angle or audio recording.

When David Howard was behind the microphone for a few racks during this match, he commented that if his break was working as it had been during that tournament (something to that effect) that he would eat either of those two guys up.I produced this match and two others from the Sands Regency in 1988. Pat Fleming was my co-commentator. This is the semifinal. Mike played David Howard in the finals.
I believe Sigel won the Sands in both '88 and '89, but I don't remember if they had 2 tournements per year in the 80's. @jay helfert would knowWhen David Howard was behind the microphone for a few racks during this match, he commented that if his break was working as it had been during that tournament (something to that effect) that he would eat either of those two guys up.
How did Mr. Howard fare against Mr. Sigel in the final?
The event began in 1985 and was held twice a year, Sigel won the tournament 4 times in 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989.I believe Sigel won the Sands in both '88 and '89, but I don't remember if they had 2 tournements per year in the 80's. @jay helfert would know

No, the angle just makes it look huge.Is the table a 5 x10?? Looks big in the video to me and the pockets seem generous also..
Nice match between to of the greatest of their era.
I watched that match on YT last night. There was a recent thread about players whose stroke you would\wouldn't emulate. Some said Sigel's mechanics were dodgy and not recommended. You watch him here and tell me his mechanics aren't worth copying. Pretty damn solid looks to me.
They would have played just as good. So tired of hearing this . You adjust to whatever pocket size is there.I watched that match on YT last night.
His mechanics look good at that time.
I was basing my opinion of not emulating his stroke upon his later years
when he looked like a jittery insect flittering all around the table.
He was my favorite player when I was a kid -he and Miz.
I would like to see the guys of that generation play on a modern Diamond however.
Those pockets look to be 5" or better.
I am aware they could probably give me the 4 ball, I'm just pointing out that those pockets look more difficult to miss that make.
I doubt we would see the same size packs run on a Diamond. Even in the match posted there were balls that barely went that would not be close today. They would have played just as good. So tired of hearing this . You adjust to whatever pocket size is there.
