Thanks for the write-up...I raced bikes for quite a few years and was a decent aprticipant. Made over 1k in 10 years in east coast pro races
Lemond is an icon, but he turned a bit bitter. I like what he did, not what he became.

Blackballed, I took care of Greg Lemond for several years.
He use to come down for the Catskills Criteriun in Los Gatos Ca.
My buddy who ran the criteriun was President of the San Jose Bicycle Club.
He needed people to take care of the junior riders for the four day weekend.
He gave me a great young rider from Reno Nevada to host.
He told me that Greg would not win the race but he would be in the lead all the way till the last 300 feet.
I don't remember the length but they were racing around this huge park for several hours.
Gary, said he would be beaten by a Wheel Sucker.
A wheel sucker is a guy who rides behind you and slipstreams at the end to pass you.
This wheel sucker was a beauty because he rode right behind Greg the whole race.
This meant that Greg had to break the wind the hole race while the wheel sucker coasted and rested behind Greg.
When he lost, he was heart broken and cried, I told Greg it' okay your not a wheel sucker.
Your time will come.
I got a call one late afternoon from Greg in France.
Mr, Calip did you see me, yes Greg I saw you.
He told me it was my time to cry and I did.
