House Cue Conversion

Do you have your own lathe? When I first got my lathe a house cue conversion was the first thing I tried, shot with that stick for the next few months until I made a new one. For me it was worth it, had I not had a lathe and had to buy a conversion, I'm not sure it would be worth the money, just depends on what you want and how cheap someone will convert it for you.

That's how it starts. That house cue will end up costing at least ten grand by the time you wake up from lala land. But, it is worth it.

I love this cue. I really learned how to play on it. Used to take it to local tournaments until I bought a Mcd and then my Viking. I was messing around with it the other day and just wanted to start using it again. I don't want to carry it as a 1 pc. I don't have a lathe but I know people who do. I would like to do it myself. Figure I'll practice on another stick and then do it. Thanks for the feed back
Sounds like you have a reasonable plan!! Go for it and good luck! But beware it is very addicting!!! :thumbup:

Just my 2 cents.
If your going to jump in and mortgage your house divorce the wife sell your kids and max the credit cards ? Do your homework!
I met a great cue builder when I ordered my 1St custom and when I said I can build that in the back of my mind it was over !
Now 2 years 4 lathes total and maybe 25k into it this wonderful art of cue building I wish I did more homework.
I took a house cue cut that sucker in two 3/8th 10 pinned it and used the same wood for the shaft it's the best break cue I have ever used!
If your heart is in it enjoy it.
But that's just my 2 cents

I bought a couple cheap house cues online, $8 each and one "good" house cue. Once I ruin the cheapo cues 
I'll do the good one. I plan on putting joint collars and a butt plate on the "good" house cue. If it turns out OK, I'm going to give it to my youngest son who plays.
Converting is what you make of it. Everyone posts some very valid points. I bought a lathe a month ago and I'm ready to buy another one...It's just really fun and I enjoy the time behind a lathe. My father was a machinst for 40+ years, he and I talked about doing the cue thing some day, he had been retired for many years. He passed away unexpectedly in early 2012. I miss him...and I really miss what "could have been" with his machining knowledge and the time we would have spent doing it. I'm guessing a cue builders verson of "American Chopper".

I do fear that the hit will change but if I dont convert it I feel that it will collect dust. I do like playing with house cues for some reasons
