I like his older ones with the older style ringwork better.

Nice guy to me each time I had a question or called him.

Bravo

Well deserved. As a customer, I couldn't ask for better respect; as a player, I couldn't own a better cue. Owning a high-end Richard Black cue has been rewarding in so many ways.

I knew he was up, but is it official he was voted in? No mention of it yet on his or the ACA website.

Please post a link to the story.

Oh the things I could do with a time machine! I'd have one HELL of a collection of cue art!

here he is in sept '04 at the new jersey straight pool tourney with a cue that he donated for the raffle - nice cue btw -

Not only does Mr. Black build beautiful and excellent playing cues... he always delivers on time. That's a pretty amazing talent combination, IMO.
I'll be ordering one real soon.

In addition to the brochure that Joe posted above, enjoy the top one in this scan. Prices went up a little, but you can see some new, higher-end designs.

Scott,
That second pic is great.. I have only seen one Mando in all my years of cues.. Also look at the shaft price of 30.00 people pay that just for tips nowadays...

He made cues and sold a bunch of them in Charlotte NC when he started but no one will sell them to me.--Leonard

Richard is definitely deserving of Hall of Fame status and has been brought up some for the International Cuemakers Hall of Fame also. I predict he will be in it in time to come also. Richard was pretty much THE really high end cuemaker for a period of time. Almost no one else was doing all the fancy silver work and such that was coming out of his shop. He gets very little credit for the designs that he introduced that are often imitated now.

I agree with you, Chris. Richard has been one of the most pioneering spirits in cue design. When he got started in the 70s, he cut his teeth on bread a butter classic styles and then really began to take off with unique, fresh designs throughout the 80s. Into the 90s and beyond, his artistic designs began reaching toward the stratosphere....but all that time, Richard never forgot about the players, they were still able to get plainer style players from him.

Congrats to Mr. Richard Black, and his Wife

Richard notified me in his Newsletter, month ago. How many tournements did (the ( Miz ) steve Mizerak win or allen hopkins. I am getting a custom cue made ! Look at what the Jap--- Players buy- 2-3 richards blacks at a time. Richard opened all the drawers when I was there I looked through 500,000. worth of cues 13 yrs ago. All on a nine ft table. He sayes he has 2 people in training. Helping build cues. I let a friend borrow a richard black when we played straight pool. He played a break shot like 10-ball(rack) in the side and ran 75 and out. I did get to use Steve Mizerak's 3 richard blacks- several times- I couldn't aford the 5,000 for all three. They were extended lenght if for nothing else but (reach) mark
