How are the crowds there?

I was wondering if anyone at the event could comment on the crowds.

I was looking through the image gallery on the IPT site and the audience in some of the photos seemed a bit sparse. Is that because it's a weekday, or are people moving around to watch different matches?

They advertised it as a sold out event, but it certainly didn't look that way in the photos.

Just curious...

the crowds are kinda lite but its great.Players shooting for fun in the hallway.Everyone mingling.The place is set up great to watch matches.I expect the weekend to be really busy.

There are virtually NO fans there, only players. KT has sent people to a local Mall to give tickets away to WOMEN. I guess the stands are filled pretty much with men only! No, I didn't make this up
 
There were 2 ticket types - A pass for the whole event EXCEPT the Finals and then a seperate one for the Finals (And there was a VIP version of each.) There are probably plenty of people who bought the whole event pass but won't turn up until the Friday evening/Saturday morning sessions. This is very common at every tournament I've seen that starts mid-week and finishes on a weekend.

That is a seperate room which is for the final. There is a big stand right around that table that holds about 600 people. There were probably 80 watching that game and 200 watching the other matches in the main room.

Colin, the bottom pic is the main room, is it not? I posted that one because from all the pics on the site, its the one showing the MOST spectators.
My point is- its hardly SOLD OUT now, is it?
From the 280 spectators , how many ,like yourself, HAVE to be there?
If there are 100 players there with friend or wife/husband, that leaves 80 spectators out of a pos 900!
I dont want to make a big thing out of it but its obviously a lie that the event is SOLD OUT.

The crowd seems to be growing each day. I'm sure many bought weekly tickets who would attend just on the Friday or just for short periods during the week.

Today for example I would say that less than 1/3 of the crowd were players. Not many of them brought wifes or friends.

You are right about that bottom pic being the main room, but remember there are 7 tables across that section with the stand running about 200 feet long.

Actually the event COULD be sold out. Sold out means there are no tickets left for sale! It does not mean that there are no tickets left. Just that there aren't any for SALE. Common marketing ploy, often used by new acts to promote themselves in later press releases.

"sold out" is NOT the same as a "packed house".

After you threatened a lawsuit, I'm sure they would have given you free reign to roll around the table at floor level to observe different angles, heckle, flip chalk cubes right side up, etc.

Or maybe they would have made you Karen Corr's honorary cornerman. You could have whispered sweet tactical nothings in her ear. Too bad you didn't show man!

Or is that only reserved for those of us who are lucky enough to read this stuff?
Maybe they do accomodate the handicapped and it just isn't pictured.
 
Number 1, contrary to what your guys opinion of me is, I would not of caused any kinds of problems. My personality is not as confrontational as you think, I have just rubbed a few people the wrong was is all.

Number 2, I am genuinely interested in where they would stick a wheelchair spectator is all I am asking. Higher up is actually a better table view, but I don't see any area reserved down low is my point nor do I see a ramp to get up in the stands.

Hard to get an objective view from the photographs however.

I mean how would you feel paying 45 bucks a day and then not be able to see much of a match, or see only the end table matches?

I'd be extremely surprised if there is no accomodation for handicapped seating. This is, after all, being held in a major public location in the USA so there is no reason ADA would not apply. Have you tried just calling and asking?

Whilst I'm not handicapped myself I have taken a handicapped relative to numerous public events and seen how it is handled at events like the WPBA tournaments. My guess would be they would simply remove a couple of chairs from the front row VIP section to accomodate someone in a wheelchair. Unless they have a permanent tiered seating setup I wouldn't think there is a way to get a wheelchair up on temporary bleacher seating that would be safe, especially in the event of a fire alarm etc. THe only locations I have seen that have wheelchair access to tiered seatings are in stadiums with permanent seating setups.

It always seems odd to me that VIP seating at such events is always in regular chairs on the ground level, which does get you as close as possible but is actually worse for viewing the actual game than being up on raised seating. However if you think about it most VIPs are sponsors and there to be seen being there on TV by the audience rather than just to watch the game.
 
I can't see how a wheelchair could get past just getting in. To sit in a provided spectator chair, you have to go up two steps. I haven't seen any ramps. I haven't seen any wheelchairs, but I have seen several (and I know it's spelled wrong) Segways - the two wheel rolling thing. But I think that was convention center personnel...

You'd have a helluva seat for a couple of matches, rolling right up against the barrier "ribbon", but if they weren't matches you were interested in, then you'd be SOL. But, you'd also have a ton of pool celebrity types right behind you watching the matches and talking!
 
I used to do track and field with some wheelchair athletes.

I remember we lifted about 10 guys in chairs up a flight of stairs in a restaurant.

I'm sure a couple of guys would have lifted you up a step or two for a view Shorty. So long as you matched up later for 20 a game :p
 
Crowd last night was definitely filled almost to capacity and I expect today and the finals to be SRO. I think because you had to buy the whole package, that they were emptier the first days because people simply couldn't travel until yesterday or today.
