How Arrogant of the United States!

I would think that the population versus population would be what matters. Considering England is about half the size of California that may not have be a fair competition...

What I wondered was, if Europe chose its players the same method as we do. I looked it up and it is similar but how similar I do not know...

Europe has over 738,000,000 and the US has 321,000,000.

So...Europe has more than twice as many people.

The Philippines has around 98 million people. What do you think the odds of our top 5 against their top 5 would be? Im betting we wouldnt like it. ;)

The only population statistic that means anything is the number of world class players you have to choose from, and simply put, we dont have as many as we used to. I figure it this way, we slacked off as a country, and the rest of the world caught up and passed us. Its up to the top guys here to press forward, but with little motivation, who knows if it will ever happen.

Good Point!

Does it matter if it's the entire continent? It is still 5 vs 5. Let's say 5 best Filipino against 5 best rest of the world, who do you think will win? Still 50-50 right.

And its a small country with a Large population of Pool players so the argument that the population of a country makes the difference in regard to the number of top players wont work.

From this spectator's standpoint it doesn't matter. I got to see top notch 9 ball being played. I'm happy.

So the only way to make it fair, population-wise, would be to play USA vs USA? There ya go mate, sorted, done, innit, job done, America wins.

Europe are on a roll. They have better players and they play better as a team. But all that can change very quickly - USA will win it some time soon. You have no God given right to win an "American" game. Enjoy the pool, the players, the emotion and the competition. Those USA Mosconi Cup players had 100% of their hearts in it - they need your support not your excuses.

Catch a gear huh?

Well fair or not, Europe won and looked good doing it. I did notice they had a lot of respect for Shane and were pretty gracious with our players when it was over. I think that they got to know Shane better during the Kings Cup and that helped to promote good sportsmanship.

If Shane Mike and Corey had caught a gear like our 2 younger players we would have had a different out come. I can't wait till next year.

I hope Mark Wilson hires Alex and Efren for a weeks kicking and safety play lesson for our Team U.S.A.

Scotch doubles does not allow for a player "to catch a gear"

Fundamentals and focus do the rest.
Couple that with the atmosphere and the roar of an exuberant crowd.

I watched their bridge hands- 3 out of 5 hands had visible adrenaline shakes-
Breathing becomes harder when it's on you.

I love our players.
They earned their place to represent our country.

Where the bulk of Americans fall short is our fundamentals and our unwillingness to use the tools available to us to grow.

there ain't no catchin' no gear if the next gear is missin' teeth.

Yep for sure, since the races are short and alternate break, the frames can often become very tactical, without as many break and runs. This suits the Europeans, their safety is on another level to the US players. How many times was there a safety exchange and the Euros came out on top!

BTW, was great to meet you Angel :)

On the topic of whether it's fair since europe has a larger population, Europe has a far smaller amount of 9 ball players. England, Germany and the Netherlands are probably the countries with the highest level of leagues. In the UK though American pool (9 foot tables, 9 ball, 10 ball, 14/1 etc) is far less popular than what people call English 8 ball. A game played with different equipment and different rules. The reason we keep winning is better fundamentals, leading to better B - games. I think it's fair to say if they played each other in long races, winner breaks, then it would be mighty close. In this format, until the american players improve their safety play and kicking, they are going to struggle.

I have to lol at this...

let's look at the better players that play for Europe...

Darren, Mika, Soquet, Albin... How many of those play mostly in America and how many mostly in Europe??? If you really want to know who the better players are, make Europe choose players that only play in Europe, make America choose players that only play in America and change the format from the short race joke that it is...
