How big is the called 8?

i don't think so! i think it's fairly big. if the guy ties up the 8 then the guy giving it up can't run out! i know that works both ways but he doesn't have to run out, he just has to make the 8.

and it's an extra money ball he could combo in or if it even looks close could call just incase.

i've won because of it before so i think it's fairly big. when i did win i didn't play good, i played smart.

I am in agreement with you, but this is really dependant on the level of play. I play very poorly and matching up with someone that plays just a hair better than I do, it would make a difference. If both guys play a ball or more better than I do (very likely) the call 8 should not come into play more than one or two games in a short race. It should also not make much difference playing by the game as the better player will continue to win most of the time and calling the 8 "just in case" will not make much difference over time ... (in other words, it may mean the lesser player wins three more games an hour so it will take the better player longer to bust them but with the same result).

Spots

if he doesn't have the stones to play you even.... he's not worth worrying about...

if you like him enough to possibly lose a few bucks to teach him something .. go ahead...

if he's a loudmouth who will brag about winning with a spot....let him play someone else...

In gambling a spot is usually required after a standard is set. Example, You've beat me three sets in a row in order to engage in a fourth venture I am going to require you give some weight, or handicap if you will. If you guys are playing for the first time unless you want to press the issue it would be advisable to start out even then adjust. Someone on AZ has a notable quote,"I'll give you what you want, but never what you need." The action does increase the level of satisfaction for me. Remember one thing, always spot responsibly.

Thanks again all.Great replies.

I talked to my mark last night and of course he wanted the 7.lol.
I made that clear that wern't gonna be happnin'.

This whole thing came about because he was shooting someone very close to his speed for 5 a game.He ran the bill up too a c-note with the spot I asked about (got air barreled) so I figured we would go for a hundred.

When I mentioned that you'd think I slapped the man lol.Seems he's only good to go for twenty...which kinda sucks cuz I was gearing towards a hundred or more...big action for me.

I'll still play him for the 20 just to see how the spot does or does not work and I still like my chances, but I'da found that out for twenty without involving you goobers.

The question is,do I dog it for a better bet? LOL

(kinda kidding)

At pro level, I'd say the call 8 is worth a game on the wire in a race to 13.
At "A" level, I'd say the call 8 is worth a game on the wire in a race to 9.
At "B" level, I'd say the call 8 is worth a game on the wire in a race to 7.
At "C" level, I'd say the call 8 is worth two games on the wire in a race to 9.
At "D" level, I'd say the call 8 is worth two games on the wire in a race to 5.

i think this is fairly close depending on the table of course.

i have watched D players try to give up the call 8 or last 2 and it isn't pretty.betting on a D player is absolut torture and if they are giving the other guy anything it is even worse.

If he were smart, he'd pocket the 8-ball on a foul the first shot he gets.
