I am in agreement with you, but this is really dependant on the level of play. I play very poorly and matching up with someone that plays just a hair better than I do, it would make a difference. If both guys play a ball or more better than I do (very likely) the call 8 should not come into play more than one or two games in a short race. It should also not make much difference playing by the game as the better player will continue to win most of the time and calling the 8 "just in case" will not make much difference over time ... (in other words, it may mean the lesser player wins three more games an hour so it will take the better player longer to bust them but with the same result).
