Come on people.... "How do I use a tip tapper?"

And you are gonna play this game with him?

LOL @ the title of this thread....

If my tip is a hard one, I find that tapping it doesn't have much of an effect. I apply pressure with my finger and roll it, that works pretty well. If it's a softer tip, tapping works just fine. Just don't do it when your opponent is shooting.

IMO, rolling is the best way to use it, if you're into messing with your tip.

I used to tap it, and I used to roll it. But I found I had to do this quite often.

Now I just lightly scruff the tip with it. I do it maybe once a month. Sniper's are great tips. I recommend lightly scruffing.

Actually, the best way to use your "tip tapper" is to place it on the floor, and then hold your cue upside down by the butt, and drop your cue onto the "tip tapper".

Repeatedly.

You see this method used in the bars of small Southern communities, along with the preferred method of chalking, which requires pushing your tip into the chalk (which is on the floor), and attempting to bore a hole in the chalk with a rapid twisting method of your cue between the palm of your hands.

Best results of this chalking method are gained from applying enough downward pressure to slightly flex your cue shaft.

I know it seems silly, but it's actually a legitimate question. I used to get this question a lot from league players, because those that had Tip Tappers didn't seem to see any benefit.

The Tip Tapper was invented to mimic a rasp or file, but still keep it/carry it. And I was always taught that the "proper" way to use the file was to roll the tip on it.

Thanks for the insight given. Tapping just dosn't seem to work. Thanks for taking the time help.

Get yourself a tip-pik works much better, I think.

There Ya Go;) I rarely use anything Myself, but the pik is My first choice when I'm having major issues getting the tip to hold chalk. I carry one in pocket everytime I play. Seems like everyone else around me borrows, and uses it more then I do though:rolleyes: :D

The missing term is knurl the tip.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knurl
It's so simple but very effective and does not remove any material. I hold the file in the palm of my right hand, then angle the cue about 30 degrees and roll the cue with my left hand. With light pressure I make two passes, one near the edge and one slightly higher. It is done, no need to do the top center, you won't miscue there. LOL

It takes about 10 seconds once you have coordinated a routine. You need a pre-knurl routine. :D Really, it is so simple I'd put up a short vid or pictures if I had time. You'll never go back to tip tapping (geez I hate that term) tip picking or whatever.
