How do you fellow mwbers deal with Bifocals?

The title says it all. I'm having a hell of a time seeing long cross table shots. I am near sighted so doing without glasses is not an option. I have yesterday (Saturday) went and had my peepers examined and ordered new glasses.

I asked the optomatrist about the problem. She told me my short range perscription was way off and she thinks the new specs will correct the problem.

I would love to know what you learned folks have to say. I'm wondering if a special set of single visions would do the trick. What say you AZ'rs.

If you can find a script that gives you a clear range of vision from about 2 feet to 10 feet, you'll be happy.

20/20 isn't the best for pool. Great for hunting elk, but for pool, nah.

Good luck,

Jeff Livingston

I wear bifocals for everyday use and for reading.
I ordered specs with a single lens for playing pool.

Told the optomitrist I wanted some glasses that would
let me focus in a 2 to 9 foot range. They almost work.

I ordered shooting glasses made with a lens that gives me optimal vision from 2 to 12 feet.

I no longer wear them. I have lineless bifocals and I keep them in place with Wedgees.

www.wedgees.com

I don't need anything other than my lineless bifocals. Wish I had the money I spent on shooting glasses. I'd have a couple more Starkey cues!

(edit; the Wedgees really do work... for me at least. And I have big ears that would take a wide wedge to get between my head and my ears and hold the glasses in place but they work just wonderfully. My glasses don't move and I never know the wedge's are there. Lineless bifocals are the nuts... imo.)

Bi focals all the way..........
1st - look through the part that makes the pocket look big,
2nd - look through the part that makes the ball look small,
3rd - bang the little ball in the big pocket, sorted:smile:

I too am near sighted. Last time I got glasses I had a special pair of lenses made for an old frame I had. The choice was 6', 12' or 18' max. focal length. I chose 12'. Works great.

Next time I might choose 18' since I don't think it will make much difference shooting but will allow me to see the table better when my opponent is shooting.

ROFLMAO...that's funny,I've got 20/15 vision,so I can see the edges of the balls crisp and clear, but I have trouble finding the end of the cue to chalk it...lol,have you thought about Fast Eddie in the color of money? Over sized glasses(but not for wearing out in public though:embarrassed2:)

I wear the no line bi-focals all the time. The last time I got new glasses, I think I went to Sears or Penny's when they had a special going. Got a second pair for $50. I got the prescrip for optimal vision at 6.5 feet (I told them I needed to see between 3 and 10 feet), and got the largest frames they had, adjusted to sit up a little high on my face. I also told them I would be looking through the top half of the llenses. They did a great job, and the glasses work just fine.

I had this problem until about 6 years ago. I sympathize with you. My solution was to have Laser eye surgery. My vision was corrected to better than 20-20. Best thing I ever did for my pool game.

I HATE GLASSES!!! Finally got contacts and I like em'!! [except for the sticking my finger in my eye part.] But-sacrifices must be made for the betterment of the game!

I hear you fellas. I tried to discuss this with the optomatrist. It was like talking greek to a pollock. A total waste of time. I may try somewhere else to get plain lenses. I'm just gonna wait I guess and see what the new specs can do.

BTW I am not dissing anyone of Polish or Greek dissent. My wife is Polish and a section of the town I live in is effectionately known as the Polish Pocono's. Just wanted to say that before someone beats me about the face and head. Hell I'm ugly enough.

BTW thanks for the reply's keep it comming. All the help is appreciated.

Yep, the first guy I saw looked at me as if to say WTF? Since I belong to an HMO and there are lots of people on staff, I said I ain't paying for this appointment and either let me see someone else or give me my money back. Saw someone else and no problem.

The key seemed to be to say: "I want the maximum focal length of the lenses to be [insert distance in feet]."

Think of it this way. The maximum focal length of normal lenses is infinity. The maximum focal length of reading glasses is a foot or two. They know this and it's no big stretch for them to make up what's needed. For each visit now (no extra cost) I get them to give me 4 different perscriptions each time: normal/infinity, reading, 12' and 18'.

Then I can easily select what I want when I order lenses (so far normal and 12').

I've been wearing no-line bifocals for quite a while now and have experienced no problems.

I use Multi-Focal Contact Lenses. Tried Bi-Focals and Progessive (Tri-Focals) Glasses and they worked for everything except Pool. I will admit it took 3 or 4 visits to the eye doctor to get the perfect strength. But now I'm golden...No more guessing or shooting for the middle of the "blur". My game has improved greatly!!

Great thread

I am going next week for testing.Right now i just play my position 2 or 3 feet for each shot.LOL
