How far do you drive

to get to your favorite pool room? How far will you drive for a evening weekday tournament? Or $500/1000 added weekend tournament? Will you drive an hour to go see a big name play some sets on their way thru to a big tournament?

And a related question-how many rooms are you known in? As a casual player. Or as player.

Is the drive to and/or back a consideration or is it all based on why you're going there?

I go to 2 pool halls, both 17-20 minute drive. I like the people and the owners.
3 other rooms are closer but don’t like them for various reasons.

I go to my regular pool hall 5 days a week, at least 1h. Round trip: 15 miles.

Twice a week I go to another pool hall that has tables with much tigher pockets, a quieter room, and costs a little less per hour. I go there for 4h minimum. Round trip is 70 miles.

This is all very costly and not very green-minded. I wish I could install a table at home and end this madness, but my significant other won't have any of it...

An hour each way whether it is Marietta or Chattanooga. The fact that my day begins at 4:50 am and I work generally 80 hours a week and most weekends makes each rare outing very special for me now. I miss the days of having 5 joints within 15 minutes of my house.

45 mins. each way for me. Like someone else said, there are some closer but I don't care for the people or the equiptment. Everyone there knows me as a player and small time gambler. They have a weekly tournament that I have won a couple of times. By the time I pay my tab, I barely make any money if I win but that's not really why I am there. I just want to play.

I drive thirty miles one way to play with friends I've known for years, two to three days a week.

On Wednesday nights I drive down to Providence. One way trip, 70 miles. They have a handi cap tournament that's reasonably fair. They get great turnouts. It's worth the trip.

Weekends I could go anywhere within a three hundred mile radius.

I play league at a place 2 miles away. I play 3 tournaments a week that are anywhere from 10 miles roundtrip to 45. Once a month on my long weekend i'll drive 3 hours to a tournament. This weekend a friend and I are going to Lafayette, La to the biggest bar box tourney in the country. Calcutta will be 25k plus, rack your own, alt break, 7 and 7. Saturday is long long long because of all the waiting (10 tables) but come Sunday everything is smooth.

For me the closest room is 140 miles round trip in Tucson. If I want to play in 1,000 added tournies then its about 400 miles round trip to phoenix.
I try to make it to Tucson twice a month and maybe phoenix once every two months. I do have a table in my house that keeps me sain.

Until I hit water! LOL :D

and thats where i take over....lmao i've been lucky enough to be on a few platforms in the gulf that had pool tables. One very big complex with a bunch of overseas guys had a snooker table in it...I was grinning from ear to ear when I saw it lol.

Since i moved back home the drive to my favorite pool hall is 647 miles

to get to your favorite pool room?
Hmmm.... I hardly go into pool halls anymore.

How far will you drive for a evening weekday tournament?
I don't do that either. I hate this game.

However, I do play a couple of league nights, and for the last 10+ years, I've been doing an 80 mile roundtrip every Monday night.

Will you drive an hour to go see a big name play some sets on their way thru to a big tournament?
LOL!!! I know I'm a bit touched in the head, but when TAR announced the All-Around II between Schmidt and Harriman, I didn't hesitate in making a plane trip from Boston to Kansas City just to sweat that match. I didn't have any other real reason to go there. (But I did visit a friend while in town)

And a related question-how many rooms are you known in?
Nobody knows me. I'm not very sociable.

I get 10mpg, so I don't drive very far

To see the right person, I'll make a trip....

I'm just a banger....only reason anyone knows me is I am typically the only person who is called to the table as "Big Perm"......one night we actually had a guy playing who had a huge perm, that was interesting

To far,,,

Unless I want to play in one of these hole in the wall redneck bars around here I have to drive anywhere from 75 to 100 miles one way to play in a real pool room,,

I'm known in 3 pool halls, as a casual player in 2 of them, and as a player in the third because nobody who's actually good at this game plays there. One is the closest to my house (10 minutes one way), another is where I started playing and I still have friends that play there (30 minutes one way), and the last is where the best players in my area can be found (45 minutes to get there, only 30 minutes to get back because I never leave until the middle of the night).

I go to the one with the best players most frequently (most Thursday nights, for the weekly tournament). I go to the one that's closest to my house almost as frequently (the occasional Thursday night I go here instead, and probably twice a month otherwise). I go to the one I started playing in once every couple months to say hi, and catch up with some friends.

If anyone in the area is wondering which is which, the one close to my house is Whetzel's in Manassas, the one with the good players is First Break in Sterling, and the one I started playing in is Fast Eddie's in Fairfax.
