A while ago there was a poll about how many racks you have run, either 9 or 8 ball. I'm curious about the players you all play against though. If you want to tell a story about the most racks you've had run against you, and how you made an amazing comeback, I'd love to hear it!

Most run against me is 3 in 9 ball, one in 8 ball. It was a local pro. I don't remember whether I won or not, but I know I made a nice attempt at a comeback at least. The ending was respectable.

My teacher once ran out a race to 7 on me. Actually I won the flip broke empty, and just racked!:D

Funny part was at the time we were working on his break which was weak because he was mostly a 14.1 player. Not long after I got his break up to speed he hit the road for a couple months doing pretty well.

On the same subject of amazing play, He once ran 7 racks of 14.1 and BEFORE he hit the break shot he had me pick out a ball in the rack to be the breaker for the next rack! .......yup, a 100 ball run doing that!:)

I have run seven on a barbox, and six on a big table (with one combo on the cheese). But... here in Raleigh, at one time (not now) I would say it was the mecca of pool. On Monday nights, there would be a full 64 of nothing but "A" players. I've seen 5,6,7,8, and once 12 on a barbox. But some of the people that were around here were world beaters. Johnny, Tony Ellin, Tony Watson, Cliff Joyner, Harold Dollar, Joe Root, Richie, Action Jackson, Robert Ray, Greg Brooks, Scott Wright, Brian Ezell, Earl Strickland, Sparky Ferrell, BJ Ussery, I could go on. We used to sit around at the bar and make jokes about "I wish some road player would pop in right now." I have had someone hit me with seven... Johnny. We were practicing ( I was getting the six) on table twelve at the Brass Tap. This is a pretty tight GC, also. I actually had him 4-2 and went dry on the snap. That was it. 9-4. That skinny boy hits'em solid.

Somebody that looked a lot like Johnny . . .

I lost the flip and somebody that looked a lot like Johnny called the pocket he was putting the eightball in on the break three times in a row on one of the big barboxes. The eight was slow rolling and the fourth time it stopped less than an inch short.

I've had a few racks ran on me here and there but I really don't remember the most. My "road" partner ran out on someone else's break and then ran seven more in a row on his break playing eightball on another big barbox. I was playing partners with him at the time so it worked out pretty well for me. I shot three balls and the eight in my one inning at the table. :D

I was playing in an APA MVP 8-ball/9-ball tournament (8-ball winners side 9-ball losers side) and was up against the highest ranking player in the area. He had to get 7 games to my 4 or something (I was a 5 at the time) and the first two he broke and ran, the third he sank the 8 on the break.

I battled my way through the losers side with 4 or 5 solid wins and then drew him again after he got sent over after scratching twice on the 8 against his previous opponent. 9-ball this time. He was up 55 to 11 after the first several racks (he didn't miss) and hit slightly too hard on an attempted safety, which gave me a sliver of a shot. I made it and ran the rest. I broke and sank the 9 and two other balls. He re-racked and I broke and sank the 9. He re-racked and I broke and sank the 9 and three other balls. He re-racked and I broke and came up dry but no shot on the 1. He kicked and got a good hit but I ended up with a shot. I ran the rest. He racked and I broke and sank one, then ran the last two that I needed ending the match. I had to get to 38 and he had to get to 72. I came back from being down 11-55 and the final score was like 38-56 :D

Finished second in the tournament after getting beaten by the very under-ranked 5 (at least he played higher than a 5 that night) that went undefeated.

I had an 8-pack run on me (9-ball) on a 9' table - with regulation pockets.
I had someone run 150-out from my break-shot in straight pool.

Beautiful to watch both, really. No complaints here.

3-4 isn't too uncommon. He's a semi-pro...

I've ran 3 and a half a few times myself, but never hit the official 4th; also, I wouldn't say it's common from me like it is from him...

I only ever play on 9' tables (not being a snob, those are just the only tables at the places I go), and I play a lot more 8-ball than 9-ball. The most ever run against me, assuming we're only counting games where I never come to the table at all, even to break, is 1. I've had that one rack run against me countless times, but never the second one in a row. Is that uncommon? I'd be the first to admit that I never play champion-level (A+ or short-stop) players. I'm not even sure how to find champion-level players in my area, and if I did know how, I don't get many chances to play other than league night, and they don't show up at Fast Eddie's on Thursdays.

In a pro event Francis Crevier sat me in my chair after winning the lag for a 6 pack. I returned a 5 pack and ended up losing 11-7. He's tough.

Then one day in practice my buddy Rory and I were playing and he put togther a 9 pack on me. 9 ball, on a Black Crown 9'. He made it look too easy.

In practice, Mika Immonen ran 6 racks in both sets we played one evening at Amsterdam's old Westside location. Nick Varner ran 6 racks on me in the first annual World Summit of Pool at Amsterdam's old Eastside location. Tom Walter was the first person to run 100 balls against me at Spin City Billiards and later that week, Steve Lipsky matched the feat at Amsterdam's old Eastside location.

I've had 2 racks of 8 run against me and I think I have 2 break and run back to back against the opponent.

I am satisfied with the caliber of competition I play against but I have no aspirations beyond having fun.

I watched 150 and out against me in 14.1 (he eventually missed at 178). At the time, he played me 150-50 and I only ever beat him a couple of times. He told me his previous high had been 106.

While practicing together, a local guy ran 8 racks of 8 ball on a 7' Diamond. He put 6 in a row together a little later in that session. (My best during that session was 3 in a row.)

I've had 5+ racks of 9 ball run against me a couple of times. (one turn in a race to 7)

Most I've ever run: 3 racks of 9 ball, 4 and out in 8 ball races to 5 a couple times.

i have alot of stories to tell for this kinda stuff! but i would say the best was playing niels feijen in a tournament race to 9, i was up on him 7-2 playing jam up, i played safe... he kicked in 2 rails and ran out the remaining 6 racks. that was on a tight nine footer. i had no complaints, he played great!
best one i ever came back to win was a 9 ball match on a big table against a strong player race to 7, he won the toss and ran out the first 6 racks then missed a cut on the nine and left me a long table bank. i drilled it and ran out the last six for a 7-6 win. it was one of the most satifying wins of my life because the guy was cocky as hell and talkin all kinda s***t while he was running out in the begining. after the set was over he didnt have much to say... but he broke his stick in about a million peices!

gotta put this in this thead,, everybody should get a kick out of this efren story.. i was in a exabition area playing around with jose garcia on a 9foot triple shimmed diamond i had justed racked a rack when jose had to go and efren walked in and put his cues together and broke the rack. (this was where the pros were practicing in between matches) i watched him run about 5 racks straight and racked for him everytime as a courtisy becouse he was on a good run. in the sixth rack he gets what looks to be REALLY BAD on the 5 ball, he play an incredible safe and sits down in the chair and looks at me... apparently i was playing against him this whole time and just didnt know it. so i hop outta my chair nervous as hell..pray for a minute.. then kick the ball three rails and in. and ran out the rest of that rack and when i looked up at efren he looked at me,, smiled,, and giggled out loud! realizing that he found my run out amuzing i racked the balls for him and he continued to run out another 5 or 6 racks. in total we played for 45 minutes.. he missed twice and both times were safes. this was the first time i ever meet efren and at the time he barely spoke a word of english. but he smiled and nodded at me alot! that was a great day!

Gotta love this one.... There was a fellow who came into quite a load of cash who once lived within about 45 minutes from me. He (I'll save names for many reasons) loved to gamble and was the best player in this hellhole of a bar. One of my pool friends came to me with the offer to stake me to go and play the guy. So, road trip, it was.
When we got there it was scorching hot in the joint, and sure enough, there he was. Big bearded fellow with a habit of hitting the men's room in between games (hence the no names). "You here to play, I guess?" "Is that a trick question, rack'em up." So....twenty a game six ball on one of the worst rags with duct tape and a mudball. Long story short I got down fifteen games within a matter of about two hours. My friend said to stick with it, the candy will get him. Now, I'm down 22 games, and my buddy calls me over. He tells me that he had just bet $20 a game on the side. He then yells out for the guy to bet $100 a game. I hit him with six. He won one, broke dry. I hit him with three more. After beer, quarters , and jukebox (a little Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" never hurt anyone), I was now up right at $500. The guy quit. The fellow beside my friend who friendly wanted to get in for an extra $20 when I was down 22 games, was screaming hot. He thought I'd laid down. He told me he wanted his cash back or else. I told him normally I would talk about it with him, but since he thought he had me in a trap 22 games hooked, I'd have to choose "or else." I then made my exit with my friend watching my back. I've won and lost more than that, but that's the best comeback ever for me. My friend told me I wasn't concentrating hard enough, and he knew jacking it to $100 and the side bet showed me he had faith in me, and he knew I'd play better. By the way, I know six racks of six ball doesn't seem like much, but on this rag, down like I was, it seemed like a helluva a lot.

The most ran against me is probably a 1 pack... I play nothing but suckers ;)

In practice after a tournament, my buddy Luc Comtois ran a 7 pack on me here in Ottawa. He was giving me 5 on 9 and the first time I got to shoot I was down 7-5. Surprise surprise... I didn't win. Poolsponge has run too many 3 packs on me to count. My best in competition is 2. At home in my basement 4.

Ironically, the most racks I've had put on me is the most racks I've ever put on anyone else (7). That's excluding bar tables.

The person who consistently put more racks on me than anyone was Roger Griffis. I played him in a few big tournaments and several small, local tournaments (being that he lived in Phoenix for a while when I first moved here). In at least 2 matches he put 6-packs on me and I can think of 2 others where he put 5-packs on me ... and that's just what I remember. I might have blocked some others out of my mind!

One night before league I was playing on a practice table (9' Black Crown) when my friend Rick asked to join. He gave me the break. 9 racks without shooting later Rick left to hit balls. He sure can rack!

My best runs to win:

6 pack barbox 8 ball trailing 5-0 race to 6

5 pack down 4-0 for $1k race to 5.
